the other day i went to a local blockbuster because i wanted to rent 2 movies

Better living through circuitry

Human traffic

both rave/drug related movies i was bored and i heard those movies were good althought Better living through circuitry is more of a cool documentary...

anyways i get to blockbuster and it turns out they dont have the movies.. dont even fuckin carry them.. i was like fuck!! :soak:

so then i went to www.blockbuster.com and searched for both of the movies and saw that they DID carry those movies so i was like wtf somethings up.. then i remember that everything canadian is .ca .. so i went to blockbuster.ca and the canadian shitsticks dont carry those movies at all ...

wtf am i supposed to do now? go down to seattle to rent a fucking movie??

no offense to anyone who works at blockbuster but much offense to the fucker who thought it was a wise idea NOT to supply canada with those 2 movies

I think I picked up "Human Traffic" from Rogers...If it wasn't there, it was a small video store near my house. I'm almost positive it was from Rogers though. Check them out.

Also, check out virgin megastore, because they probably sell it there.

I rented Human Traffic from Blockbuster's before.. so they do, or well, did have it.

Either way, there are more video stores then Blockbusters. If you want these movies so badly check out a different one.

Blockbuster considers itself a 'family' store and they don't stock certain movies because of content they deem is unacceptable. They don't even carry Kids, or Bully, or Gummo!!!

It's all about Rogers Video... way better selection

lol there is some independent DVD VHS place pretty close to where i live.. but also across the street from blockbuster and around the corner from rogers lol

only way to watch better living through circuitry is by odering the dvd online or tryin to find it at virgin megastore.. :soak:

That would make sense if they didn't have that softcore porn-type stuff on the shelves. Unless drugs and weird things are bad, but porn is okay??

i'm haven't been to rogers in a long time. i'm still bitter about the gumby incident (stupid i know, but whatever haha)

i'm just biased since there's been an amazing movie store in my home town that we've used since it opened about 15 years ago. gotten to know the owners, and to trust their reccomendations and such. their prices were dead cheap too. 2 bucks for a new release vhs/dvd and a buck for an old release. not to mention that their selection was huge. much bigger than your average rogers, in fact. the selection of titles was then enhanced with sometimes more than one copy of old releases, nearly ensuring what you'd want was in.

but a few years back, rogers came into town, and slowly but surely they've been siphoning business away. this is incredulous since the prices are about double what the independant charges. in addition, its selection isn't nearly as diverse as the independant and the chances of finding that your title is gone are higher. it doesn't make any sense at all from a logical standpoint. it has an inferior service at a greater price, yet is largely more successful than the better product. but, going into the adbuster schtick, it's rogers as a brand which makes it successful. this alone makes it slightly evil. what really makes it evil is the fact they're seeking to control the media in totality, which is a big no-no.

but, like you said, that's old schtick. if you want a video store, there's usually a rogers nearby which will do the job quite well. however, if there's an independant across the street, i'll go there instead.

btw, does anyone reading this ever go to tom's on grandview?

i never quite got that either. my instict would tell me that they could pass it off as being "art" while still getting lots of sales from guys looking to whack off. sex is also a universal fact of life, so it might be less susceptible to tarnish their image. while with drug-related films, it is in keeping with 'mainstream viewpoints' to censo^H^H^H^H^Hfilter them from the shelves. the reasoning might be that since only certain people do drugs, and this is seen as undesireable, that the film selection should reflect this.

still, this contradiction makes no sense at all. if i were a customer from the type of conservative background that they're marketing to, i'd probably be just as upset to see barely clothed tits on the shelves as i would be to see pauley shore stoned.

this leads me to think that there might be something else at play here. going back to the soft cores providing sales, it could just be that the drug/off-beat films serve only a tiny niche of customers. possibly not even enough to justify reserving shelf space for them. the 'family-values' approach might just be a way to justify only stocking films that get rented often.

anyone ever worked at a video store that could shed some light on this?

i rent from toms 99% of the time, cause it's 24hrs, and pretty cheap. i can rent 'normal' stuff and hella chinese movies there. and porn. can't front.

i don't mind local video stores. only problem for me is the only ones near my house (like blockbuster and rogers) are chinese, viet, or korean.. and.. i can't watch chinese viet or korean movies..

so i usually just go for payperview.. then there's no leaving the house required.

^^ y'know what would be easier then actually going to the store?? Try calling them first to see if they have it in, if they don't then you save yourself the trip and you'll have time to find another store (independant) that just might have it.
