You mean in many countries like Canada? I've had plenty restaurants put a 15% gratuity on the bill on big orders.

chinese people in canada are not used to tipping because we dont tip at chinese restaurants. i figure some forget that the same does not apply for all restaurants... it's not that we're cheap.

I know someone who is so cheap it's embarrassing to be in a restaurant with him. He will ALWAYS find an excuse to not tip, regardless of the quality of the service or food.

He's so cheap, that if you leave a tip, you have to be careful or he will find a way to steal it during the dividing up of the bill. Or he will actually after everyone has left the table or restaurant, have a plausible excuse to go back, and then grab the tip before the waiters get it. Now THAT's cheap! Dishonest in fact.

^^ and why the hell wouldn't you tip??

if you have enough money to go out and eat at a restaurant, i'm sure you can handle a tip.

I've had it done with orders less than $100, but generally I think it's when the bill is over $100 that they automatically add it on.

haha yea i worked at cactus club before and you start out at 1% for kitchen. I know its a different type of restaraunt then goddessa's chinese place but still. Im chinese and when it comes to tipping we chinese usually have the 10% ruel which isnt alot but good enough. When i go to white places i usually aim for 15% minimum and depending on the service maybe up to 25%

15% or get the fuck out! and then 5% for the cooks, cooks work hard too ! :D

um, theres some restaurants that charge 15% as a "service charge". its sad to see that, cause tipping is generally the right thing to do, no matter how the good the service was. its usually not easy work doing a table of 10 or more. and as for the asian people never tipping, well i dunno but i dont think its a custom or requirement in asia to leave a tip. so maybe they feel the same way here? I always find that its the less immersed asians who dont leave tips.

when i lived in japan for 3 months iI saw some pretty interesting things in restaurants. the customers are really demanding yelling to the server "Excuse Me!!" after waiting only 3 mins or something. its so demanding and everything has to be done now now now. its kinda like that all over japan in other fields too. the people working there are put through hell by the customers, ive never seen it like that before. so obidient, and really fast. and they STILL dont get tips. so even though i feel for you getting a crappy table, other people have it a lot worse.

and yeah, my respect to all servers and cooks :)

all the shitty tips and the really good tips even out.
how many times have you walked away from the table saying "holy shit they tip really well" ?
if i get a shitty tip on something...fuck em. some people could be from somewhere that tipping isn't normal. ie. england.
10% of $120 is not much and not worth freaking out about.

lucky for us, if you get a shitty tip...staff the bill and you automatically get 25%.

if one customer screws you over...just work it with the next customer and make some more money.

Just let me know where you work and me and my buds will come by and leave a really nice tip. We always tip well unless the service is the absolute shits! Even then though, if the waitress is hot we still leave a good tip.
One time we left a $20 tip on $30 bill just cause we were too lazy to ask fro change :keebler:

It does upset me when servers assume that tipping is manditory regardless of the level of service.

Just because you have twins doesn't mean that you should get tipped for looking provocative.

Tipping is reward for good service.

I've tipped a penny many times and I have also tipped 40-50% of the bill if the service was truly amazing.

A simple test is this... start at 30% of the bill and keep track of how many times the server screws up or forgets a request. Take off 5% for each and leave what is left if it isn't at zero.

For example... I don't think it is too much effort to keep track that my glass of water is EMPTY and it could be refilled.

I did read the rest of your post.

I was just using your twins as an example in my reply as there are some places that hire attractive females servers for that one reason alone.

Sorry if it came across as a personal jab.
