yes, it's hilarious to watch but not a very good way to judge americans. obviously they only pick the stuidest people and the funniest answers to air on the show. doesn't mean that all americans are like that.

Tom Brokow tried to do the same thing in Canada, kinda do the typical American Dick-Showing oneupmanship. They gave up. Too many Canadians knew American History better than some Americans. At one point Brokow mentioned the Canadian's defeat in the War of 1812 or something like that and the guy is like "Uh. We burnt your White House down."

I've only ever seen stuff like Talking To Americans or Jaywalking work once on Canadians. And that was in Newfoundland.

^also note: times that i've seen Rick Mercer or Jaywalking, it's usually done on a college campus or somewhere else that really should NOT represent the 'stupidest' of americans.

The very first Talking To Americans was actually done at Harvard. The whole thing was getting students to help stop the baby seal slaughter in Saskatchewan. Now, that's almost excusable since it's just a province, and in all honesty I wouldn't be able to tell you on a map which state Iowa is (it's one of the square ones, right?). But they just got worse and worse... Probably my favourite was when they went to Mt. Rushmore and it went like this:

"So, they're talking about getting a new face on Mt. Rushmore now.... they're thinking either Nixon, Carter or Mulroney."

"Ein, I dunno. I'd rather see FDR on there or something"

"You don't think Mulroney was a good president?"

"He was pretty decent, you know, but just not that fantastic"

Oh hot damn I was falling over in laughter.
