Lack of annual review at the office
So as oj January 18th I have ben at this office for one year - I was told when i was hired that i get annual reviews. annual reviews though rarely fun are usually the appropriate places for discussion of salary
I asked my boss about having my review - he made a face of disgust (literally) and said that they are so much work because of the write up he has to do and he has no time for write ups I offer to write up my own as I had done at the bank - I have a blank format leftover - So i wrote up my own review detailing how my role here has changed, any concerns I have about the upcoming work year and so on -- I have been writing these things for 7 years ..i know what they should look like :) I forward it to my boss along with a suggestion we get together to discuss it...this was in Febuary. Since then he has not responded to all my requests to get together - I asked him if he had received my email - he said yes, but hasn't had time to look at it Fuck. I understand that he's a busy man - he's our controller, a financial consultant and head the admin departmet -- But if you can't handle the work - I don't think it's fair that I keep getting put to the back of the line I don't believe that just because a certain time period has elapsed that a worker is entitled to more money -- but my workload has easily tripled since i started here and no one has ackknoledged any of it and this is an appropriate time to look at my salary I don't want to go to the owner of the company -- that would be looked down up on by the rest of the staff I think My patience is wearing thin -- I seriously feel like not doing any work and then maybe he'd be forced to talk to me |

I know what you mean, I've been in that situation, not fun at all. It seams you have done everything to make this easy on the company you work for - even wrote your own review! There's no reason why your boss shouldn't have atleast 10 minutes to sit down and talk to you about your role with in the company. And if nothing else 2 seconds to say "You're new salary will be $$$$" (although a review is always a good thing, as acknowledgement of your work or even to know where improvements can be made, if any). He sounds like an intellegent man so he must know you want a review also to speak about salary. I think you should walk into his office and ask bluntly when you will be getting a salary increase, stating that you've done a great job and think you are entitled to this. Being blunt may be the only way to deal with him.

I got a nice raise after a year... from $12.50/hr to 14. Then a bonus after a second year. Then a few months back I got a $0.15/hr raise. That's like an extra $20 a month... fucking retarded.
I'll have been here for 3 years this July and I hate it more than anything I've ever hated before. I understand that I have a real good job and my co workers are chillin and I get away with a lot here but fuck man doing approx. 1000 tax returns a year is insane. That's not even mentioning all the other shit I do here. Everything from secretary... office assistant... system admin... bank person... tax preparer... ugh it blows. |

I love it when they're reviewing you and you have NO idea.
Then one day they call you into the boardroom and you think you're getting fired, turns out they decided to give me a promotion and a raise.. that walk was a scary one, and I was so shocked my eyes welled up with tears and all I could utter is 'thank you, thank you very much' (I felt like sally field YOU LIKE ME! YOU REALLY REALLY LIKE ME!) |

Maryah...I suggest you send him an e-mail reminding him that it is ILLEGAL for him to not give you a yearly review.
If he doesn't reply in three days, call the Labour Relations board. Shit like this should NOT be happening. The reason that things like this DO happen is because employees LET their employers get away with it. If everyone complained when they experienced misconduct, employers would be a lot less quick to break the rules...or should I say, THE LAW. |

Our company does peer reviews every december, we never talk raises untill feb or march, after we get our bonuses. Our raises are based on our review and are retroactive to janueary 1st. It seems to me that peer reviews are the best type of reviews because they are done by people you work closely with and on a day to day basis. I've ended up with a 13% raise my first year and a 7% raise last year, just waiting for this years still. No where have I heard that reviews are mandatory by law though, so I wouldn't be pressuring your boss using that angle. I'd just let him know that its best for the company as well you, and tell him you'll schedule the meeting if need be.
