they're called camel spiders and they are from kuwait
here's what a us soldier had to say about them

anyone from back east remember spruce bugs?
it's sorta like 1/5 junebug 1/5 cock roach 3/5 scarry as mother fucker. they're about an inch and a half long, black and fly around looking for dead spruce to eat.
much worse than getting bit by a horse fly.
