fucking a-power bullshit

so after having my computer be more than a week late, i get it today. i take it home and start installing windows on it when all of a sudden the power just totally shuts off. so i try to turn it back on and now it wont even turn on!

could it be the power supply? its 400w. when i open up the casing i can see the little green light on the motherboard on. so that means the motherboard is receiving power.

i dont think its the actual on button because when i push it the red LED on the front of the case lights up for like half a sec, so there IS a response.

anyone have any ideas? im going to take it back tomorrow, but if i can fix it tonight that'd be even better.

i've had to deal with that too.. but it was just my power supply

Take it back or even call them before.. Perhaps they can help you fix it.

I used to have a super wierd power supply.
Best I can tell, it needed to warm up before it would supply proper power to make the computer boot.
we had to switch the rear switch to 220v and let it warm up on half voltage for like 5 minutes before it would boot properly.

Power supplies can get really fucked glitches in em sometimes....

Any number of reasons.. Doom once went through 3 power supplies in a day, each did the exact same thign you described.

Take it to A-power and play power supply rectal packing with the clerks, they'll be sure to give you a new one.

funny thing is that the pickup was at 5.30.. i called at 3 and asked if i could pick it up then and they said to get it at 5.30 because they were doing performance testing on it... yeah right

also, after the comp shut off completely i noticed that the power supply area was really hot... the one im using right now never gets that hot. could it have been that i blew it? or maybe just cause it was a 400w power supply?

get a multimeter, plug the power supply in, and check the connections for power to make sure you're getting something through it. or if you have another power supply in another computer, use it to test

UPDATE: i just got it back from a-power and they said they had to change the power supply. they were having lots of people bring in their systems as well because the power supply they were originally using was the one that came with the casing which is apparently not very good.

i bought my motherboard from a-power and the sound card was fucked. so i took it back and they just grabbed one from another box and gave it to me. i bet they just stuck my fucked up one into the other box. damn chinese merchants.
