Ya, people suck, sometimes.
The horrendous acts commited during war aren't acceptable but war is? Someone explain this to me.

True.
Though these things don't just happen during wars..
for example, in Iran, if you have any type of alcoholic beverages, you get ~ 200 whips. There are many other tortures aflicted with some other crimes too. They hang, stab, or shoot people who decide to go against the islamic regime inside or outside the country.
In some places in Saudi Arabia, if a thief is caught, depending on the worth of the material he has stolen, he loses a body part. I remember my grandma telling me when i was a kid, that when she went to S.Arabia to pray (she was muslim), this guy was caught steeling this lady's purse. 2 of his fingers were cut (almost like the clip in the video)

So what scares me is that they use the same psychology for wars and 'subjective' crimes.

People North America and most of Europe are surprised that events such as this are happening throughout the world, and they're not just taking place in the middle east but world wide.
We are so lucky to live where we do, speak what's on our minds, and act freely, worship whatever faith etc without fear of persucution.
We've come far as a people in the last 150 years, but we havn't come that far.
