My ICBC Story

Just wondering if anyone has ever been able to have these people make sense?

I have my class 7 licence and I lost the card about a year and a half ago. I took a day off to go in and get a replacement as the one in my neighbourhood is open stupid hours. They gave me my temporary licence and said my picture ID would be in the mail. I don't have a car and rarely drive so I didn't notice that it never came. Eventually I did so I sent my mom (<3) in with my expired temporary one to find out what was up. Apparently I had shown wrong ID and my licence was now suspended for paperwork. I was told to come in with proper ID to get a new one reissued, AND pay the replacement fee again. Not that $17 is a lot of money, but I know they did not tell me ANY of this, as I would have gotten the right ID and gone right back.

I went in to get a replacement AGAIN, and complained that they never told me anything and the lady explained that you don't need the same ID to get your temporary licence as you do the picture one. Basically she explained their policy allows them to give someone that may or may not be me a piece of paper giving them all of my information... go figure?!?

Then to futher the pain she said my licence had expired and I would have to pay the replacement fee... which hurt even more because I just planned to get my licence back and take the road test. I argued with her again because my licence is good for 5 years and should not have expired yet and she went through some other long contradicting crap and basically told me I had no choice. $17 turns into $75

So FINALLY I get my licence in the mail and I turn it over and see that the rules have changed and I have yet again DIFFERENT restrictions that she didn't tell me about. neat.

Now I need my class 4 licence to get into the paramedic hiring pool but first I need my full class 5 before I can even take the first test. I go in to book a road test but apparently because my licence was suspended for these 'paperwork' reasons I had to start my 24 month waiting period again... and still have over a year left.

I've been in to try and speak with someone human there but I continuously get the run around and I'm getting sooo sick of it. Ugh.

I thought I was done with them after they told me getting hit by a car was 100% my fault and sent me the invoice for the drivers whose windshield I cracked with my head. Guess not.

/vent...

Go speak to a reporter at The Province and see if they will publish a story of your plight.

Bad publicity works wonders with ICBC.

It's been considered. I was recently in a lawsuit with them however over the head vs windshield issue though so I'm a little worried that may hurt my credibility or something, I dunno. I'm going to go in to one more DMV and see if I can get someone to make sense.

All I want to do is drive a friggin ambulance!

I wouldn't bother going to a DMV. I'd go directly to ICBC headquarters and try and solve the mess there. If you can't get what you want there a DMV sure won't have it.

And bring a reporter. :c-tard:

That is insane! All the power to ya hun... I hope you get this turned around asap! And if you need (when you have a valid class 5 of course), I can recommend a very good driving school for class 4's (I need a class 4 for my summer job and we send all our employees to this school bc we find them to be well-priced and good teachers). Chin up!

My brother totalled the car and got his licence taken away too, with only 3 months left before he could do his class 5. Because he was under the older rules, until it was revoked, it becomes reinstated under the new rules and his 2 years with the N resets.
Which is a totally shitty deal, he needs his class 4 and airbrakes for firefighting.

What icbc told you was right, you're up shit creek for the waiting time.

There's a solution, depending how badly you plan on becoming a paramedic. Move to a province without a graduated licencing program. BC, ONT, and AB all have graduated licencing, i'm not sure about the rest. Work for 3 months (or however long they require for proof of residency) and go get your class 5, class 4 and air brakes there.

It's not idealic, but 20$ an hour starting as a paramedic is a pretty good incentive.

I'm guessing you have your OFA III if you're planning on paramedic work, right? If you're looking for a short/long term solution to $$, check out Medic work in a camp environment. +$200/day +free meals and lodging is hard to say no to.

Och thats a load of bull! Its big enoguh of a soar to go thorugh that lame ass 'expired' nonsence and re-pay. Yet alot of the N rules seem rediculouse. Not if your a young teenage driver, but for example in your case where your an adult and trying to get a job that requires a class 4 and your stuck dealing with those rules is redick and usless imo.

personally the whole 'N' shit seems useless to me. by the time you are allowed to take the test to get rid of the thing, you've developed all of the regular 'bad habits' any driver has - like hand positioning and what not.

right now theres a case against me but icbc is backing my ass up. woman is trying to claim big money\lots of injuries from me rear-ending her. her car had less then $500 damage, her air bags didnt deploy, and she left the scene before the police got there. i have imeditate medical records (i went to the hospital my seat was broken and moved forward, i hit my head.... ) and records from a follow up with my doctor who although gave me the "youll be sore for a couple of weeks speech" said i was young and not to worry about physio or anything cause i would heal, and i did. this bitch whos trying to scam money didnt go to the doctor till months later, and also had an accident weeks before the one we had. the lawyer who's representing me\icbc laughed when i told her all the shit i had to tell her - with my documentations. the woman didnt even remember what day it happened, what time it happened, and had a rough idea of where it happened. i was able to produce times, dates, the exact place it happened and the fact that i didnt receive a ticket fromt he police helps my case as well. and there was an accident on the same corner the previous week and since, the corner has actually been blocked.

its because of people like this that we (the good people) get so fucked over. icbc gets scammed alot, and it makes it so much harder for people to make their honest claims.

i just dont get how they can restart your N 24 months or whatever bullshit from trying to get a replacement and having incorrect ID?
that makes NO SENSE AT ALL

i dont think that any of thoes new N rules and crap should apply to anyone over the age of 19.... telling adults who just got their licence recently that they can not drive with more than one person in the car is just rediculious, and then it just fucks up shit when you need to get a new licence for a job and what not
