Bank Fraud

So I go to buy a pack of smokes the other day and my bank card declines. When I get home I check my account and see that's it's at -$2400. It turns out that someone has stolen my card info, pin number, and then counterfited my card. They spent about 1600 on a Robson shopping spree, cash withdrew $500 and then went all out at Capones for dinner.

FUCK THEM!!!

you should have the bank&authorities look into the records for which ATM they withdrew from becuase most of them have cameras and they might be able to catch whoever it is who did this. Good Luck hopefully things turn out for the better.

sorry to hear that Nolan.
You'd think that if anyone made any major purchases they would have ID the jackass. Atleast its only your visa and not EVERYTHING you have.

He said it was his bank card, not credit card. That sucks mang, call up the bank and they'll refund the money. You got pwned, let this be a lesson, next time be more careful when using your card.

I'd love to go on a spending spree like that, I'd hit up Armani Exchange. At least they used your info wisely and had good taste.

Happened to me before in that huge bank fraud thing a couple years ago.

Sometimes being careful w/ your pin isn't enough - the guys that hit me (and hundreds of others) actually created a dummy company with modified independent bank machines which scanned the card and recorded the PIN, then made hundreds of counterfeit cards. Then they went on a 2 day spree hitting up every bank machine they could find and withdrew hundreds of dollars from people's acocunts. I think the total was some $2 million stolen...

And yea, the bank will deal with it and refund your money.

man, ever since that...I dont ever use debit anymore, strictly cash and keep all debit / visa reciepts and dispose and shred them at home.....and you're still not 100% safe these days!!!!, if your money aint safe in your bank? then where is it then? I personally feel in my home hidden in a secret safe....

The bank always refunds the money, it happened to a friend of mine too. Just be aware of your surroundings and shit.

Props to the Russians they got skillz! Sucks that it happened to you all, at least you all learned a valuable lesson (DTA) Don't Trust Anybody.

Jingles is on a distinguished road
It happens ALL the time, there are many people out there working on ways to get PIN numbers, make fake cards, and fraud the night away -- And as law enforcement often takes a few days, or even weeks to really catch on many of these practices go unpunished.
Working at the bank years ago, people always would bitch about security questions, or asking for ID or making them sign for w/d, but it cannot work both ways, we cannot have a system with no security checks adn have such easy access to cash at machines.
Bank machines that are not the property of a chartered bank or credit union of Canada are the ones that usually have the issues. They are the ones in bars, and stores - don't use them, they are expensive and they are not checked enough.
Gas stations seem to be another very popular place for fraud, I don't know know why - but, if you can, don't use the card inside the station, use it only at the pumps to pay direct.

If your account has been targeted for fraud, notify your bank, have your card canceled, and call the police to get a file numbre started right away. Safest bet, have the account closed and open another one

if your wallet and SIN went missing and this occured, you need to notify the police, bank and the government - you need a new SIN and at the credit bureau you need to have a note added that no credit decisions can be made without talking to you
that way, someone in ONtario who now has your SIN cannot get a new credit card, account or loan without a red flag being raised and you being able to notify the police

and most importantly, never give out your PIN number - the bank doesn't cover any fraud if you willingly gave someone that PIN number
