Lack of Winter Olympic coverage!
Basically, Australia doesn't pay much attention to the Winter Olympics. Because, basically, they're really really bad at it. I can actually kind of understand it.. they're pretty proud of their country out here, and watching their athletes continually bailing out and falling over and finishing 35th in a field of 36 doesn't really inspire a lot of patriotism.
Still, this doesn't help me out. If I hadn't visited this web cafe I'd have no idea we actually won a gold medal already. And I'm terrified about the hockey coverage.. I have a feeling there won't be any! SUCKS And I don't want any sassmouth about "You're on the other side of the planet, you should be experiencing NEW things". I've experienced plenty of new things (including becoming an avid fan of "The Cricket"), but I'm basically a wage slave now because the money has run out, and I can't afford to jet off to the coast or anything nutty like that, at least not until later in my trip. All I want is a goddamn hockey game on TV, is that too much to ask?? PS I miss you FnK, I've got no idea what's going on anymore, other than Myra is getting hit on by emo boys and Jim is filling the Plaza with Jello. Is nabs still delightfully enthusiastic/naive about pretty much everything? Is Euro Dollar still stupid? These are the questions that plague me as I lie in my single bed at my quaint little Motor Lodge. Look at that, I've got so little net access that I had to turn 2 posts into one. Feel free to reply with posts about winter olympics, questions about life in Australia, or the latest on "FnK's of Our Lives" Cheers Dave

Heh, I feel your pain, when I was living in England, you used to have to stay up until 3am to watch American sports, like football. I remember I stayed up until 5 am watching a hockey game, I think it was like, Nashville vs Carolina or something but I could give two shits who was playing..
My GF is Aussie and she's like, what's luge.. what's biathalon, she has no idea what these things even are, but at the same time, she can name pretty much every single athelete in the summer games for Australia, olympic atheletes there, are like our major sports stars here.. everyone there knows most of them. I think it's funny how Canada is not doing all that well in the WINTER olympics. Isn't half this coutry covered in snow and ice? Maybe the Canadian olympic commitee should think about that next time their shelling out money for the games. Like, we're almost the joke of the winter olympics..

I think we're showing a lot less of the Olympics this time around too. I seem to remember them being on 24 hours a day every other year. Now between like noon and 6pm, it's fashion shows, frazer, and The Simpsons. Why don't they put on more of that ski and shoot thing?

Wow this just reminded me gathering with a bunch of other Canadians running from pub to pub surching for a place that would air the stanly cup. Eventualy we did manage to find one pub that tuned 1/8 tv's into the hockey game... we really pissed the footy and cricket lovers on that one.
As for the olyimpics... HAHAHA... yet when it comes time for the common welth games they dust off the giant screen tvs and place them in the malls, food courts and streets.
