I don't think its an issue of male/female, but rather a maturity level.

I can think of a couple people i know who would not spread anything personal i told them if i made sure to tell them. Most of the time you should know what is appropriate conversation and what is not. If you don't have the ability to discern like that then it really shows your maturity level.

Gossip is one thing, as everyone is guilty of this, but to be the starter of gossip is another. Once it's out there its common knowledge.

To take something a close friend confided in you and spread it around shows your integrity. When someone does that to me they are instantly blacklisted and never regains my trust.
