Import tax on Vinyl?

Iv just moved here from the UK and i usually buy most of my tunes online, but was told id get fucked with import tax once my order reached canada.

Anyone know roughly how much you get charged, or if there is any way around it ?

I asked the postoffice about this and the guy told me if the declared value of the goods is over $30, you have to pay GST and PST on it, as well as the lovely $5 fee customs charges you for the pleasure of billing you.

Although sometimes I've gotten orders slightly over $30 without being charged the fee. Guess it depends who processes the package.

i've ordered from overseas a few times & there's never been any additional fees...

order from chemical, and don't order more than 2 records per box, and you'll almost never have to pay extra. but it's not an import tax, its GST and PST. and a $5 per item fee. it's the $5 that kills you when you get it. but i've probably only paid that on 1 in 10 boxes i order

I've never gotten charged for import tax. Shipping is bout 2 GBP per record, but never import or duty.

someone else told me that if you can get the record store to write GIFTS on the package and send the invoice separately you dont get charged on GST & PST.

But i guess it would be easier just to keep the orders to 2 records at a time.

just don't order records from the states. you will pay everytime

i order mine from states... and never pay anything.. for instance i just got 20 something new records... so yea.. no customs
