rachel auburn at mm6

anyone else think her set was really good? i totally love tidytrax, ESPECIALY the tidy girls.. that includes anne savage, lisa lashes, and RACHEL AUBURN! ive already seen anne savage and lisa lashes live.. but this was my first time seeing rachel auburn live and holy fuck she blew me away!

i have part of her set from mm4, and comparing it to the first few minutes of rachel's set this year, it was almost exactly the same! even though the tracks might be old, they're total crowd pleasers... hehe its funny how i own almost all the tracks she spun (some were pretty old too, 2yrs?)

one bad thing though, it attracted a lot of scary flailers.. like this big group of asian (flip?) flailers with glowsticks who i thought were going to hit me with them when they were swinging them around.. ahh

I dont know why people praise headliners sets like this when a good bunch of our very own local boys could throw down the exact same set and get no love for it... I was not there but i heard that the shit she played on thursday was shit that most people had also...

Thats because they would get shot down by doing so.... I have been to a party where the dj played 4 tidy tracks in a row and nobody had good things to say about that.. Its like a florida breakbeat dj playing almost a full set of Union or Kalaidascope tracks.. Some kids might like it, but I think most would dog it

exactly... you dont hear that kind of stuff here anymore. thats exactly why i liked rachel auburn's set so much! its been so long since ive heard a dj actually spin that kinda stuff and i can always count on a tidy dj to do so. im aware of the fact that a lot of people probably dont respect rachel auburns track selection, and im not arguing that fact, im just stating that i personally liked it because you dont hear dj's around here spin those kinds of sets anymore.

peace outside!

i wish some of the smaller parties would have trance/HH dj's more. it seems like the only thing that gets played at smaller shows is disco/breaks/dnb. people who want a fix of HH or trance have to go to big shows, which i personally don't want to do very often.

Two comments....

First...in terms of her looking good for a 50 year old cokehead...I think she's more like 40...and yeah, she did look kinda cracked out...'specially depending on the lighting...but damn, I've seen a lot of 40 year olds who likely haven't had a cracked out day in thier lives who look hella worse

Second...and feel free to shoot me down if U think I'm wrong here...but when someone like RA comes to town, they aren't local, and aren't here on a regular basis, then a lot of the time they might spin a lot of older stuff that they know will get the crowd pumped and excited...not cuz they're lazy or don't have new stuff...more cuz it can almost be a 'greatest hits' equivallent type thing to a rock show...and they know the fans will be more pleased by old tracks that are comfortable like an old show than something they don't recognize...I'd guess they don't have the same approach playing at home or venues they are more of a regular at...as for locals, they need to have more variety and be more challenging because the local crowd can see them so often that in this case they expect something new...otherwise it becomes "eh, why bother seeing <random local DJ>; I've seen him three times in the last few months and all his sets were about the same"

...just some thoughts...but hey, I enjoyed both the Sonar and MM6 shows...and I love old, cracked out shoes...
