Boomtown Records Vancouver: Closing

As you've probably heard by now, Boomtown Records Vancouver will be closing it's doors as of December 31st 2007. Until then, we'll be offering some huge discounts on our remaining stock. There's loads of hot vinyl in all genres still on the shelves, but i'm hard at work pulling out the gems to add to my on-line inventory at discogs.com. And since everything in the shop will be reduced by at least 20% for the whole month of December, you'll want to make it in quick to get the hottest wax for the lowest price.

Aaand that just about covers it. Needless to say, as the month comes to a close & we get closer to the bottom of the barrel, the deals will get even crazier. Right now we have lots of Shure cartridges & stylus replacements in stock, various slipmats and a few Serato records left in stock as well, all 20% off.


note: if you or anyone you know has CDs on consignment sale, please come & pick those up as soon as you can. There's a huge box of stuff that i won't be taking with me when we leave, so anything not picked up by December 31 will most likely end up in a dumpster.

Shame to see such iconic mainstay of Vancouver DJ scene go away. Only steps from Ogre's bridge too.

I've been one Boomtowns biggest customers for years and am going to miss heading there every Friday!!!!

HUGE props to Wood and staff for having done the awesome job they have over the years. -- Records, selling tickets, etc.

Wood - keep me posted on the farewell party! I'd like to be involved or at the least be there!!!

In more than a word: shame to hear of Boomtown going bye-bye. Never really bought records there but was still a great place to just chill and browse around when picking up tix for clubnights. Will definitely be missed.

yeah, that's pretty much what i'd put it on. not much i can say about it as i've hardly bought a record myself in the 6 mos. or so since i got Serato. Vinyl's far from dead but it's definitely a shrinking market. Online sales are still good though.

well.. it's extremely dissapointing to hear the news, i'm really shocked.. I knew it was going to happen but nothing really prepares you for it.

I remember the first time walking into boomtown

the trance was fantastic
then mirka came in and the trance was amazing, as was the techno
then mirka left, the trance was still holding some gems but 70% of the collection was ass.
then the trance got shitty
then it got really shitty
then i started finding trance in the breaks bins and techno in the dnb.

that's when i realized i should pick up torq.

It's a real tragedy that DJs stop buying vinyl once they move to serato or traktor or some other mp3J format.

I'm kinda getting tired of hearing beatport top-10 lists at ever club and party I go to. Especially since 99% of the music is nothing I'd really want to listen to more than twice.

DJs gotta get back to paying good money for their music or we'll never hear a solid track in a DJ set again. Without sacrifice there is no art.

I think that has less to do with serato and more to do with how mp3s have systematically driven down the perceived value of music in general. But that's a discussion for another thread.
