Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat, the Brooklyn-based, Israeli-born masterminds behind Balkan Beat Box, describe their music as “Mediterranean dancehall.” Others have described it as “Balkan-inspired electronic urban folk, with hip-hop beats."

Fusing Jewish, Gypsy and Arabic styles with hip hop and electronica, Balkan Beat Box continue their musical hitch-hiking as they mix things up with ancient Moroccan and Mediterranean melodies. As NPR said, “the sound of Balkan Beat Box…recalls the Klezmer tradition of going from village to village to weddings and funerals.”

For this magical performance the Chan Centre is the village, and we’re proud to welcome this pioneering ensemble to our home.
