Anyone in Vancouver like Electro??

Does anyone? I don't mean electro as in electro house. I mean like electro funk, electro bass, miami bass, electro. I have made posts with links to stuff over the last while with little to no replies. I don't hear anyone in the city playing this stuff much so it makes me wonder is there many people that feel this kinda music? There has been a comeback of sorts happening down in south Florida for the last while and some pretty cool bass music coming out. Europe has also been doing their thing too. I do hear some electro funkk and booty stuff played from time to time around, but not that much it seems.

Music isn't actually discussed too often on this board. It started out as an electronic music board, but lots of people post because of friends, or have moved on from electronic music. It's more of a social gathering then anything.

For example, I used to love electro and listened to it often, but these days I hardly listen to anything electronic.

I thought they were calling that stuff "Bassline"

"electro" as I understand it is the lo-fi 808-driven early form of hip-hop (also heavy kraftwerk influence). Nobody really listens to that stuff that much anymore since the whole electroclash trend seemed to bedraggle it heavily...

I've been hearing a lot of the booty-influenced stuff though lately. The Count & Sinden ftw. Check out Shine on Saturdays, you're bound to hear some of that stuff there.

"electro" is becoming a catch-all term nowadays. Kinda like everyone called electronic music "techno" in the 90s. Covers everything from the hipster indie rock shit to the garage/bassline stuff to the shit that's basically hard house at 125 bpm.

those Lindsay's Diet parties @ Sweatshop play lots of Miami Bass, amongst other regional booty-shake genres. or so i understand, have yet to attend one.

nah bassline is a british genre, the latest in along line of black uk club genres that's a reaction to a previous genre (grime in this case) that's been appropriated by the white/mainstream club audience. Sounds like 2-step garage at grime/dubstep tempo.

Cool, thanks for the info guys!

@Wood, I haven't heard about those parties @ the sweatshop before, I am gonna find out more!

@ Soo, no doubt. Electro is just a selling phrase almost now, too bad most of what is being coined as electro is quite far from the electro that predated it and is still coming out. Electro can still be 4 to the floor for sure, just that this electro (electro house really or whatever you wanna call it) doesnt sound or feel similar to electro.

There is a lot of electro that is just sorta chin stroking music, not really dance floor friendly imo. Some of it is good to listen to for sure, but a lot seems weird to me.

jenai can only hope to improve
as long as someone isn't singing, i like electro.

what i am waiting for is someone to sample a pop tune, and use the singer's voice to make beats with.

the best 'real electro' artists to check out can be found on the network on:

TechnoBass.net - Techno Bass Multi-Universal Network

My favourites are Dynarec, Delinquent Dialect, Dexter (Klakson), Drexciyan DJ Stingray, Dopplereffekt, Aux 88, DJ Assault.. man.. the list could go on!

and of course, I couldn't not give myself a mention - Espion.

Check out live and dj sets on my site www.hyperoctave.org plus here:
Espion: Espion Live @ Electroinvasion on Frequency Radio - 2007-12-15 :: PLAY.FM

Or simply by searching the net! The releases have been doing very well recently. Plenty of coverage :))

--> Reviews :
"Espion 'Petrol Bomb The Fuckers' rivals a lot of the Satamile catalogue for dark and uplifting electro, and may well have given us one of the last electro anthems of the decade.." - Bodytonic

"Petrol Bomb is simply fantastique - a pure Espion style & sure a future hit. Congrats for your Great work for the second edition.You have my support" - Umwelt

"...two of the uk's finest electronic talents, espion & point b, join forces on the discerning berlin label bass4bots! huge worldwide dj & radio support... the sound of electro pushing forward into the 21st century" - Veto

"Espion - Petrol bomb the fuckers" is one of the best electro track now." - Spectrums Data Forces

"Europe's rising star of Electro.." - DJDownload

totally man.. I'm hoping that there will be a new name to define the 'neo electro' scene that is true to the detroit stuff, not like the electro house or electroclash garbage..

benyamean (and others) - check out my soundcloud page hyperoctave - Tracks - SoundCloud

There will also be a new live set uploaded soon, of the gig just recorded, which has the stuff that has been out in the last few months (PBTF, Vitbio, Apophis) - which is actually 2005 material even though it was released 08/09. The new stuff is faster, darker, more aggressive and experimental. I welcome you to categorize, criticize and leave feedback on.

:)
