First DJ that got you hooked...

What is the first DJ, electronica duo or group that got you into the "rave" music scene. And if you spin, what was the DJ or whatever that inspired you to start spinning?

Back around 95 or so, I was introduced to the Chemical Brothers, by my friend Celina (Anyone ever been to a 'Celiner' party, well that's her) and that opened up my eyes to raver tunes. Being from Montreal, most of the parties were primairily Jungle based, so that's what I grew up on. I never cared about spinning until I saw bad boy bill, then soon after I made it a past-time of mine. Odd that a house DJ would inspire me to become a jungle/breaks DJ.

For true techno it would have to be "Lords of Acid" in 88-89.

But I fell in love with music long before then and the "European" sound came out with Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Alphaville and many others.

People are still trying to convince me to try my hands on the wheels of steel.

Ditto.

Mr.Machoman is it true? that all the girls wanna cum on you....

and my all time favorite track is the one that got me hooked in the first place - CJ Bolland 'Sugar is Sweeter'

As for Djs - well back in 1998, Czech and Grooverobber kept me coming out to parties - so i suppose they are responsible for the creation of raver Maryah
and then I got a taste of Jump-UP and I was in love.... and then Simple 3 brought me my first live performance of The Vinal Syndicate

gaaaa...................

Orbital is the first group I would say.

My v. first rave mixtape that i listened to until I killed it was an andyb tape (circa 97?96?) and a close runner-up was a Skye mixtape (it had a skull on the front!)

oh...and TYLER LEWIS..hoo my god, I listened to his mixtape until it was listened to so much the tape was forever ruined

hmm.. i listened to a lot of early rave groups & djs long before i started clubbing or going to raves, like Lords Of Acid, T99, Shamen, as well as industrial stuff like NIN, Front 242 and *cringe* KMFDM. Chris Sheppard also introduced me to a lot of early techno, i'm not ashamed to admit. But the first DJs i really 'went off' to in a rave party situation would have been Minutemaid, Andy B, John the Baptist, and probably T-Bone as well. Those are the ones i remember moving me the most, also Vic locals like Tyger Dhula, Rennie 'Dubnut' Foster & Ice-E-Fresh were important. Judging by what i'm into now i'd guess it was Andy B out of all of them who had the biggest effect, the records he was playing at the time (uk hardcore proto jungle like 2 bad mice) were SO MUCH better than anything i'd heard at that point. I have no idea who the first 'big name' dj i saw was.... although Derrick May was an early one... Phantasy would've been the first big UK jungle guy i saw. We didn't get too many touring DJs in Victoria at the time, not ones that i was interested in anyways.

Mark Lewis is probably the first dj that really got me interested in progressive/trance. Saw Tiesto a couple months after that and was hooked :smoke1:
