Z95's new format. Good or Bad?

Comments. Let's spark a debate. Hollah! If you didn't know already, Z95.3 has changed to a new format. Instead of top40 there very similar to JackFm and playing a lot of oldies. Mostly alternative and adult contemp.

So what does this mean for Vancouver? The beat will gain listeners, 103.5QM FM will loose listeners because Z is the hipper version of it. Also JackFM will loose listeners because Z is a softer version of Jack.

So the question is, is this change good or bad for Vancouver?

i have been having a great time singing along to Z these past few days

I think they finally relaized there age demographic and are now catering to the mid to late twenties group
More nineties hits.....

I realy Liked thier new format at first. Its great to hear some old tracks. But now they are starting to replay and overplay the old stuff as well.
I liked how Z was the station where you could basicly hear most types of music in one spot.
Now its not.

i haven't listened to Z since i was 8 or something like that, but doesn't Vancouver have enough "oldies" stations already? What's with all the radio stations shutting down/changing to crappy formats these days? its fucking rediculous.

now the Beat is playing Britnay & Christina's songs... I predict they turn into what Z was 4 years ago. Funny thing is that Z started off as a hip hop station. Will history tell the future?

AWOL, fox always played alot of nirvana/pearl jam, early 90s era music.. i haven't listened to it since like grade 10, but thats what they always played back then...

and about Z95, i dont really care, i never listen to the radio because of all the top40 crap, what this city really needs is a dedicated hip hop/electronic station, or maybe in my dreams a 24/7 drum&bass station with special guest dj's from around the world doing mix's and interviews, daily DNB news, release info, and new dubplates getting played..

The odd time I listen to the radio is The Fox and The Essential Selection on The Beat when I'm not out Raving. Screw Z! :c-tard:

the new format's not bad, i only listen to the radio at work usually. i'm hearing a lot of older tunes that kick ass. i think it's better than before. leave the top40ish stuff to the beat i guess.

if you don't like top 40 at all, and don't listen to the radio, why just why would you care and why would your opinion even matter? they clearly aren't catering to you. z's not trying to convert [insert genre here] listeners into top40 listeners now are they?

Well said Karl. :c-tard: Do you want to know how music is selected to be played on the radio? Stations have monthly surveys in which samples of sonds are played and then rated from 1 to 5. 1 being enjoyed and 5 being not enjoyed. Based on this #'s, songs are then put onto a playlist. Also, radio isn't about the music. It's about selling advertising and the music is just a reason to get listeners to hear the ads.

Many people on this board might not enjoy top40, but a large portion of still Vancouver does.

^it seems you care enough to respond.

example: i go to a mechanics union meetin, and start bitching about how mechanics charge too much, and do too little. at which point the mechanics ask me, well sir are you a mechanic? no, ok do you work at or for a mechanic? no, ok do you own a car? no, ok do you have any dealings with mechanics? no, but i drive by mechanic shops all the time.

my point is, the people who hate z, and claim they never listen to it are constantly injecting their opinions regarding it.

I think by 'oldies' we're referring to music from like, 1994 here.

And as far as I'm concerned, the music that was cool when I was in the 7th grade will always be cool.
