in defense of those trance DJs who mix every 6 minutes...

kinda hard to mix tons of tracks really quickly... specifically for trance these days. why not let the track play out? thats what the artist who made the track intended to do anyway isnt it? let the track play out and just let the crowd enjoy it... rather than have the DJ just "showcase" how awesome he is at mixing a track every 69 seconds...

non-trance music, however, is a different story

Ive never been so thanked b4 after one of my sets... the sound guy was so amazed i never over killed the sound lol

About the request thing UM ARNT WE DJ's???? Your objective is to pelase the crowd when your playing!?! Breat is right, play it if you actualy have the track and it fits with yoru flow. If you can get that person going, youll probly get the rest too.

Oh and dj babbysitters. I dont mind having somone come up and fix your base or trebble. However I've seen some babby sitters who have trouble letting go of the tables.

Partys where there arnt set time slots... ovten I find myself dealing with DJ's or freinds of DJ's coming up to me RIGHT after I get on, nagging me again and again "can I play next? Im playign next right? When yout hink youll be done" etc etc... Um I just got on ok!

I coudl deal with any of those, but the one that really gets to me is...
Getting canceled or the party shuts down RIGHT before your set... thats gotta hurt more than anything :'(

DJ pet peeve?,
kids who's mom bought them 12's a year ago and they play at every party because they are best friends with the promoters or they kiss ass, promoters should book djs based on talent. period.

ouch - this is the reason why so many DJs don't put playlists on their mixes.

^^^Thats damn right Awol,
I dont spend most of my time finding unique records that no one else plays, to give my track list out, if people want that shit they gotta purchase the cd,
I'm shure that alot of djs feel the same way, people should buy more local djs cds anyway, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL DEEJAYS PEOPLE!!!

my experience with people who make requests at clubs would suggest otherwise, usually the request maker has no one but their own interests in mind. of course it's the DJ's job to please the crowd, but one person making a request does not represent the whole crowd, in most cases. Even if they do request something within the realm of possibility, a good DJ should be taking the whole crowd into consideration, before pandering to the requests of one individual.

Fair enough. Just don't get too upset if others pick up the same tracks afterwards. A good tune is a good tune; once exposed, a floodgate of vinyl seekers are released upon it.

Whomever produced the track did so with the intention to have it played out. It's exposure for them so it tends to defeat its purpose whenever DJs try to whore these tracks to themselves.

people bumpin the decks doesnt usually bother me, unless its repeated or a total lack of respect. most of the time its a flat out accident and the person doing it doesnt mean to at all.

anyways some of my pet peeves while im playing; people who ask me to drop a track during my set, people who mess with the mixer while im playing, and people who continually try to get my attention to talk to me during a mix after i've told them to hold on a second.

pet peeves while other people are playing; djs who cut every mix like halfway through the mix, i mean the beats are matched and there is no drop coming, so let it play out! the over use of flanger and filter effects, even tho i commit those sometimes, and djs who hate on other genres just becuase it isnt the genre they play. i can see jungle djs not liking trance and what not but for example lets say some breaks djs says "oh fuck trance that shit is whack" when they have no idea of music is, only what they hear being played in the bc room of plaza is just plain obnoxious and close minded.
