Well the only reason I use CDR is the fact that most of the stuff I have on that CDR will be pressed eventually. I'm not going to spend $70 to have a track or two cut on a dub, that I will be able to buy in 2-3 months down the road. If you can't use a CDJ, learn.

Now I understand if it's NEVER coming out on wax and you want it for your personal collection, thats a different story.

This is obviously my view, and I understand you may have a different opinion and thats cool.

I hear ya. For me some of the stuff I get cut is never coming out, some is. The stuff that is coming out are tracks that I don't mind paying $15 per track to get to play 2-6 months before it comes out. It's really just a matter of money and convenience for most. Cds do offer the luxury of finishing or downloading a tune and burning it for use that night. It's still a good idea for Djs to know how to use both vinyl and Cds.

Where in the world do you think you can get plates cut for $15? We're talking more like $60-70 from what I remember. Plus most people shouldn't be cutting anything unless they received the actual master from the artists themselves. I don't like the fact that people seem to find an mp3 on Soulseek and go get it cut or play it off CDR. Thats just morally wrong.

Damn straight it's wrong, not to mention the most disrespectful thing you could ever do as a DJ. All the tracks I get cut were personally given to me be the artist, wouldn't have it any other way. The US$15 was referring to how much it costs for each side. US$30 buys you 2 tracks cut on a 10" at 33rpm (turnstyle records)

Well isnt that interesting. I'm sorry though, I can get a CDR mastered tommorrow, and play it. But that's totally different than actually have a 12" record in your hands with your name & music on it. And plus, most DJ's simply don't spin cd's (in breaks or d&b anyways) and if I want a big (freq, rennie, etc) dj to play my track i need to throw him a dubplate. Right? "Here, here is the track I made that you can throw on right fucking now if you wanted to" right?
Thanks agnst for the hook-ups. I had a UK hook up for (what they said is good as a normal 12 record) for 50 pounds ($120 bucks eugh!) For someone wanting to send out track internationally, are dubplates the best bet? I mean, in a media kit is it worth throwing in a 12"? I would personally say 'yes'. Because, say they get the kit and think 'shiat this is good!' then, they have to contact you, to send the music to get the plate pressed to give to the dj. If that's all done, they'd be a lot happier, right?

Doing my homework here :)

I wouldn't throw a dub in a media kit. It'll cost ya too much. If you're sending out the kit to promote your own music and want people to play your track out just send a CDR with a decent quality file (wav or high quality mp3) and let them decide what medium they want to use. I know lots of Djs who might only kinda like a tune, but not like it enough to get it cut. If you don't want people to play your track out send a low quality Mp3. Be very careful who you send kits to, I would hate to hear about how someone stole your track and pressing it themselves. A good idea would be to send out the kits with a short clip or a low quality mp3 and tell people that if they're interested then you can send em a higher quality version.

Oh and most of the bigger name breaks and DnB Djs like Freq Nasty and Dieselboy do play Cds.

Hope that helped.
