Buying new or used turntable set

Hey,

Ive been on the lookout for a turntable set for a little while now - and after doing a little bit of research and what not think I have a fairly good idea what Im looking for. But Im not quite sure where I should look for them.

Anybody have any good ideas of good stores in vancouver or even on the island that sell good new or used turntables and mixers. And whats your opinion on used equipment - Im thinking going new - but if you guys think that used can be fairly good even though, then I may leave my options open for that too.
Pawn shops here in town blows. And nanaimo has no good music shops.

I heard there was one place up in vic. but I was wondering if anybody knows about ne over in Van and even the whereabouts of them too, also if anybody knows more in vic too, that'll come in handy too.

thanks all,
peace

if you wanna drop the money, tom lee has em, or you could just find a bitter retiring dj and grab the decks from him/her for a steal of a deal.

Hey Kevin.

Lucid in Nanaimo does orders for mixing boards, they probably do for tables as well.

I'm still looking for somewhere in Nanaimo that I could find a mixing board at though... still no luck so far. Other thing is to ask around. I got some Gems for about $400/2 from a buddy back in Duncan.

Other thing is to check out the For Sale/Wanted section on this forum. Send out a post - What kind of decks you looking for? You wanna start straight off with Techs (means dropping hella coin)? Or do you want some disposable training decks? Keep in mind, if you opt for the latter, don't expect to get any money back on them. Tech12s (and a couple others) are probably the only ones that can be looked upon as an "investment" much... Basically, unless you have quality, expect your decks to die before you're done with them.

Plus, if you get the crapola disposables, they're best for learning on.... If you learn on techs, you'll get the basic ideas but it's kind of like having training wheels... you have the best of the best here, and if you ever plan on playing out, you may not necessarily have all the luxury of a pair of tech12s and a Pioneer DJM-500....

Oh, and then there's the black crack.

Thanks Dave,
yeah, Im not wanting to go to too cheap, but definantly not top of the line. I was taking a look at prices and whatnot online - and from what i can tell technics is a little more expensive them Im going for, probably looking towards numark or gemini for the table. the mixer Im not sure about the brand but Im thinking around $150ish on the mixer for now. I've only spun a couple times and I juss want a small set that I can play on at home and juss practice and have fun with basically.

that 400 is awesome - wish I could a hold of that, if you know anybody around that has a set there wanting to sell, I got a little over 400 - around 450 to spend - so odviously Im not going too to expensive - but just something simple but fun.

but yeah thx for the tips - and if you find anybody send em my way plz.

thanks guys, any more suggestions?
