Real player.. WTF?

What happened? Now when I listen to a sound clip (say from a record store site), instead of the file opening in my little real player, it opens this full page 'webpage' with a little play arrow to play the clip?! It's like it's built itself into internet explorer! What a pain in the ass to not only click on the link to download, but now I also have to click play?

I used to be able to scroll websites with the clip playing in real player in the back ground, but not anymore! When I click on the back button when it's on that real player page, ofcourse ot goes back to the page I was viewing before and stops the clip!?!

WTF is that?
Any help on how to get rid of this thing?

Seriously, why are you using it in the first place? I've always HATED rp's interface. It's horrible. There are much better programs out there. If you want simplicity, go winamp. You want poweruser status, go iTunes.

Realplayer is real shite, always has been.

I've made it this far through life without bothering with real audio files, I'm pretty sure I can keep that streak going.

My case still stands. Anybody who encodes to Real media deserves a craptacular interface.

I hated RP when I first used it in 1996 - slow, buggy and counterintuitive - and I haven't seen ANYTHING that's convinced me it's worthwhile since.

don't get me wrong, i hate it too. but if i want to watch something in real format, i don't have any other options and its easier to use real player than find the same thing in another format.

Suppose. But much like Dave-the-other, I've done perfectly fine without it on my comp for the past near-decade....

edit: This is also why I hate proprietary file formats. Probably only one I can stand is mp3, but that's because it's so common and there are a whole bunch of different programs that support it under various different platforms.

Even wmv pisses me off, but that's mainly because nobody's really made a decent wmv plugin for rhythmbox.

it's cuz you're not a vinyl nut. all the online stores i shop on require rp. we don't really have a choice

besides the new real player isn't bad at all. it used to suck but it's gotten alot better
