Are talking about The Breakfastaz, Dj quest, kinda shit or the Nitty gritty intelligent stuff from tipper, Fine cut bodies, SOTEG.

Skip EZ rinses out alot of the first actually his whole crew represents that sound pretty nicely (its been long since I heard them)

Other then that most of the other shit stays in most djs bedroom with only a few djs with the guts to rinse it in public. DJ E-MAN!!!

Fuck I hate the Vancouver breakbeat scene or lack there of.

Breakbeat djs and supporters could learn alot from our dnb scene thats for sure.

like what mateo? how to wear trucker hats and studded belts and attend parties without any women at them?

haven't seen too much of interest in Vancouver's dnb scene lately... maybe I just ended up at the wrong event though... hard to keep up with all the scenes within the scene!

pfft what a generalization. A bunch of girls went with my crew to the last 4 DNB events i've attended and theres always at least some there. Sure not all the shows go off, but a lot do, even the met on a regular friday packs em in.

ps. you'll find trucker hats and studded belts at any Vancouver event, why do you care what people wear so much?

i hate the name bassline breaks...

but i got just what you are looking for if thats what you want.

hard, heavy, rolling breaks with a dash of funk.

sample set coming soon. =)

a few people i have talked to really turn up their nose at tearout breaks.. maybe because its just starting to emerge here. either way.. once promoters start to book guys like us im sure it will change some minds...

mostly house parties are where our kind can be found. invite extended! =)

it was a generalization indeed... I honestly haven't been to that many dnb events... was just kinda jaded by the last one I went to and by a couple ones that were at The Lotus for a while...

I just find it irritating how so many people bitch about how there's nothing new in breaks and then when something new comes around and tries to blow up, people shout it down because it's not what they're used to hearing... what kind of attitude is that anyways??

i dont think anyone is shouting it down...fact remains that breaks in general are not a big money maker as far as events go.

true enough... akeel

but i think also that its partly the market and partly the promoters.

i mean most people that go to raves and clubs want to hear stuff they know..

but they wont know anything if they cant hear it at clubs and raves... they wont hear the new styles unless promoters can take some chances every so often..

its a catch 22.. i think breaks will always be under the radar.... which is good in some respects but sucks trying to play out! haha...

I will have to agree with Matt on this one. The dnb scene in Vancouver is way stronger than the breaks scene. The bassline sound is just too heavy for most people(especially girls) to handle(some like it i know....but girls love the funk). And for the most part where ever the girls are the guys will go. I know it sounds bad but its true.

I just don't like the scene. I think theres a ton of great breaks coming out. I really like the dnb scene b/c its nitty gritty. The people go off to everything wether it be liquidfunk or grimey ragga shit. Every time I have been out the last 2 months to a dnb event I have had a blast and heard great tunes. The fact that jungle can't be found as much as before at massives etc is pretty apealing to me also. Breakbeats are the defination of a rave it seems these days where if I want to hear some jungle I may have to search a little.

tis quite true. breaks are far more common at raves, but as far as i can see, there aren't many (if any) flourishing breakbeat nights in vancouver, while jungle gets rinsed and loved all over the place.

the breaks rooms at big parties are usually filled with the hip hop or florida style breaks... and some dnb..

the big hard bassline breaks though really havent had any exposure yet... i mean yes the breakfastaz were here and it was dope... but the venue was small and didnt really sell well..

i think that my style of breaks really needs time to grow into vancouver... like at the larger style parties instead of dedicated "tearout breaks" parties.. .

as a sub genre of breaks it cant stand alone and have a following near to what dnb has in terms of "dnb nights" etc... there is really no contest when comparing the two.

There is rarely flordia breaks dj's playing in the breaks room at Vancouver parties here at all. I know Fixx was here not too long ago but besid that the florida sound hasen't been represented here in ages. I think Vancouver knows what tearout/bassline breaks are, the masses just don't like the sound. To an untrained ear the stuff all sounds the same is what i've heard time after time.

yeah sorry ... my bad.. i meant to say hip hop / super funky breaks... (finger licken etc)

i have only been in van for a relatively short time so my experience is admittadly limited...

i think im just way to hopeful that music that i am really into and spin is what the masses want. =/

ive seen a smaller room GO OFF to bassline/tearout ... but i can say that i dont see a dj like myself taking mainstage headliner.... its just not mainstream enough... and as long as i can get that chance to blow the room 4 away... im happy. =)

skip, i agree with you about the funky breaks, girls like them more, and where girls go, guys go!

but in the past 6 months, ive thought that bassline breakz were on an uprising! i found alot more people where digging the heavy stuff

we do need more breakbeat club nights, dynamix is triing, but we're just not cutting it. there needs to be more then 2 small nights a months, thats for sure

on onther note.....
i dont think the dnb scene can teach the breakz scene anthing, thats like sayin the trance scene can teach breaks....at the local trance nights, and at parties, people are always dancing to whatever comes up!
keeping in mind that its mostly high asians.......but they arent the only people into trance!
so i do have to disagree with that comment, but thats my 2 cents
