Mixing - crossfade or no crossfader?

it's come to my attention that i am one of very few djs who use the cross fader relgiously when i mix. combination of crossfader, volume faders and all 3 of the eq's... 4 if applicable.

but from what i see, most other djs here only use the volume faders and the eq's... is there a reason why you chose not to use to crossfader?

crossfaders are for scratching...using gains, and both faders is more precise for mixing....adding in the crossfader for that is redundant.

hmmmm akeel we need to jam sometime and you gotta show me just 1 of your massive selection of dj tricks.... but i gotta disagree... if the crossfader was just for scratching, why make a crossfader curve, and mixers with only 1 smooth cf curve?

it's probably because i learned how to mix using the crossfader but i just find that it helps alot in doing very long smooth mixes. when i use the gains and faders things get way too complicated.

but i think it's rather interesting that people only use the faders for mixing. that style can definetly come into good use when adding 2 more channels in the mix

well tiesto is gonna be replaced by someone soon. I would think Paul Van Dyk would make a respectable number 1 dj. i don't think he's much of a smiler

when i drop in and out of places, i don't always want to mess around with the settings of the inhouse mixer. so, if i stick to the volume faders i don't have to expect any curve balls. I do wanna get into scratching because it totally adds to a good set. but i don't wanna scratch in public prematurely. i wanna get into learning the mixer effects like the flanger and stuff. or the sampler even

There was a thread about this at tranceaddict.com. Almost nobody there uses the crossfader. But that's because they're mixing trance and the transitions are S L O W and they're fussy and want more precise control of the levels.

Mostly I mess around with house and the transitions are faster so I use the crossfader all the time, as well as the channel faders. I have rotary knobs for the channel faders and they can't be turned very fast.

When i first started i knew no one who spun, and didn't have anyone to goto shows with. I used to spin with both upfaders up, a slow curve on my 05pro2 xfader, brought that in slower. Then i started using the upfaders to bring in tracks instead, made my mixes much smoother.

fuck, i barely use eq's let alone the crossfader. it helps keep the levels steady over all the mixes because crossfaders adjust and compensate from one side into the middle.

also i noticed...

with mixers like the pioneer 600, you sometimes can't help but have to use the volume faders. it works alot differently from my vestax pcv (wow i dont even know the model number of my mixer)
