Female Djs

Im sure a lot of woman take this subject seriously as do I and im not a sexist man at all.
but Why is there so much hype about female djs.
A female football player.......Whoa
A female Hockeyplayer.......Double whoa
A female rugby player.........amazing

But wut do woman have or don't have skill wise that men don't when it comes to djing .
when a female dj is present its like oh my god shes a girl and shes playing music. you go girl ! Girls are smart smarter then a lot of guys they should be better djs. After watching a horribly programmed , Mix matched set played by a "respected" female dj I failed to find the reason why she is getting booked so much...

Again no offence to woman I love you all.

i think it's because there is a greater percentage a male djs out there than female.
i totally know what you're saying, when a chick plays a set and it's shit but people still give her props..probabley because shes:
A. HOT B. HOT or C. track selection is ok

but i can name quite a few female djs who actually know what they're doing:
-illesha
-lil miss booty
- babyanne
-anne savage ect...

i guess cuz theres way more guys djs than girls. yeah yeah no shit shirlock on me but ALOT of the male djs do it not only for the music but i guess to boost their ego and get laid. i bet a shitload of guys will deny it but hey we're guys and we wanna get women. but the point is i dont think alotta girls djs for the sake of picking up guys as well as a little bonus. they do it cuz they love the music. all about the music. so people respect that.

"i think there's a biological reason why guys supply the beats
and woman supply the soul" -- bjork

disclaimer:
that may be the precise quote, don't have the book here to check.

that is also a very cliche thing to say period

It's definately because of how the generations have progressed.
In the beginning, men were the money makers and women were
expected to keep up with the daily chores.
Slowly, things evolved for women and we got to vote...work...
...all things in which MEN did before.

As for dj'ing, well...
...MEN pretty much started doing it.
I wouldn't say women are ALWAYS smarter than men,
I also wouldn't say we OFTEN are either!
I think that the sexes are pretty much EQUAL now.
Hence why women are entering the fields in which
MEN have in the past.

I think the hype of female dj's is because there aren't many of us.
I see it as a great accomplishment for females to enter such fields as dj'ing!
Simply because we weren't originally apart of that field.
It takes a lot of time, patience, personal strength and confidence to succeed alongside men!

AND I do think -- GO GIRLS!!

*cheers*

It doesn't matter who is spinning, as long as they're playing good music and not fucking it all up =)

i started dj'ing because I love drum and bass and i wanted to spin it myself, not have to listen to a few others play it.

Illesha is the only chick you mentioned that I actually consider skilled for mixing. I've seen all the others, and believe me they're riding the "OMG it's a chick on the decks" trip. Not a show from dj skill, and that's why I like to see certain djs.

The DJ industry is male-dominated. Plain and simple.

Guys are going to pay notice to a girl if she's hot. Cause they are guys. I certainly pay attention to hot guys (and girls, but that's a whole other story..)

Although I don't believe women should be treated with any more preference than guys, I highly support their encouragement!!! A lot of girls are intimidated, and it shouldn't be so.

With that, I'd like to offer my services, to any girls who want DJing tips.... Just take me out for sushi.. and I can give you some pointers, as I have 15 years training in music theory and technique... =)

(Mark Paul, thank you. I was actually talking about you with Sean the other day and we were both agreeing that you have the right attitude - you're just doing it for fun. I think I need to take some relaxation lessons from ya, because all these deadlines are killing my creativity.)

Female DJ's...

There aren't enough of them in the Vancouver scene... DJ'ing is done predominantly by guys. That isn't a sexist statement it's the truth - look at the numbers today.

For me it is awesome seeing a chick spin - one who has defied the odds and is up there spinning some phat tunes...

Mmmmmmmm a chick spinning breaks. <sigh> What more could a guy want?

Werd.
