XM, or SIRIUS Radio?

Has anyone tried both?
I'm looking to pick one, but I'm not sure which one to get. Obviously, the one with more underground, dance, D&B, etc etc... would be the one I'd want. XM is supposed to have more content, but I know that Sirius is making a big push and may overtake XM in a few years.

Can someone explain the difference to me? I haven't ever heard XM radio.

As I understand it, the radio world was having serious troubles keeping running due to lack of listeners, and hence lack of advertisers, which is why Vancouver has no "niche" radio stations. What makes XM or Sirius any different from the radio in your car, other than where the signal is coming from?

Is there heavy advertising on XM? Niche stations? What's the hook?

I guess I'm mostly thinking "after ten years of interactive internet and on-demand media, what is making people go back to passive radio listening? why is there all this advertising for new radio services, instead of podcast players or something?"

Thoughts?

I don't think I would buy one. Id rather just use my ipod with my choice of music. However, we bought one for my dad one with XM for xmas. And for him, its a dream come true. He can now listen to all the red sox games live and to a choice of more than 4 NHL games a night. Plus all the sports talk radio you can handle. It has the same basic music channels as you cable satellite box would have. Nothing special. Canada is still a but behind so you can't always pick up the best signal, but apparently they are working on that and will have more towers up asap.

hmmmm....sounds bad. After some quick research I think that 90% of it would be of little use to me. I may do it for the commercial free broadcasts alone, which would be great when driving. It is not the end all music device I hoped it would be. IPod looks better.

i've heard XM for over a year now. good selection for all kinds of music. to whoever that asked, no there isn't any advertisements at all. thats the point of satellite radio. all music, little bullshit.

if you think about it, it only cost you the same amount as buying 1 cd a month. pretty fair price for a good service if you ask me.

sirius has howard stern..

bought it for my dad for xmas... damn thing couldn't lock a signal in New west on the water, near the key, at his house.... It's kind of cool, personally I wouldn't listen to it that much... but great for the old foggies. ;)
