Wow. This is a great statement. I agree with you on this one -- HOWEVER, I would think that every single time a band writes a new song they're creating something that has never been done. They're creating a work of art to feed their passion of playing music. So really, they ARE adding something new. If it's your opinion that they really aren't opening minds or expanding ways of being I guess that's because it doesn't fit how YOU believe they should be opening minds or expanding new ways of being. In their hearts they feel like their showing another piece of themselves to the world. The whole idea is subjective, but I learnt long ago that there's no point in cutting a band/musician/artist down. They're doing what they love. This is their job. They are contributing music to the world and music is wonderful. The best thing to do is to respect them for what they do, even if you don't enjoy the music.
