similar thing happened to our family a while ago... someone stole our mountain bike and then replaced it the next day with another stolen bike, which got confiscated by the police once we had realized it was stolen.

buddy of mines brother got shit faced, stole a car and went for a joy ride only to decide to return the vehicle to the owner and an awaiting officer...
