Thought I would post this in here as there are some fnkers competing!!! (Myself and Soo)

Tomorrow should be BANANAS!




MEGABLEND will take place on Wednesdays at Republic over 5 weeks, beginning Mar 25th and culminating in the finals April 22th. The contest will be judged by The Boyscouts (Marlon J English + P.Luv), DJ Kenya and special guests and hosted by MC Emotionz.

DJs will advance thru the competition based on technical skill, originality, crowd response and showmanship. Each DJ selected will get a 50 person guest list to bring their crowd out to support them. 5 DJs will compete each week for 4 weeks with the winner and runner-up of each week guaranteed a spot in the finals. Each week’s winner will also receive 1 bottle service package and guest list for 5 for the following weeks to check out the competition. Each week’s runner-up will receive a 5 person guest list for the remaining weeks.

The final line-up will consist of 8 DJs.

GRAND PRIZE is a weekly residency at The Blend plus a trip for 2 to Montreal and a guest DJ slot at Team Canada’s club, The Blue Dog.

2nd place prize is a bottle service package for 4, guest list for 10 and a weekend DJ slot at Republic

3rd place prize is a bottle service package for 4 at Republic

Advancing are Vinnie The Squid (week 1 first place) and Mike Lake (week 1 runner up)

Advancing are DJ Hunt (week 2 first place) and DJ Swick (week 2 runner-up)

Advancing are DJ OMG (week 3 first place) and DJ Cho Cha (week 3 runner-up)

DOPE NIGHT!

Soo rly stepped up! He played everything and despite the circumstances he played rly well. The DJ booth is pretty bad for sound quality not to mention you have a billion people staring at you from the balcony and another hundred down at the dance floor you can't see.

As for the other competitors...there were a few "hopefuls" but I know a handful of people if given the chance would've out shined anyone up there. You can't go up there and play 15 minutes of electro house with dudes like P-luv judging the event. I think i saw Marlon J English falling a sleep at one point.

Next week is going to be intense. Some of the dudes that i think have the best chance have had weeks to come up with something whereas Soo and I are left with a week.

dude - i had 4 weeks to tinker on that set - I could have played it in my sleep - next week will be way more challenging...

I was impressed by XL - apparently he's only been djing for 4 months - had some serious skill on those decks.

One thing I've really noticed is that for a contest called "megablend" not too many DJs are actually dropping a lot of live blends...

Well, I'd like to think it was skill cause I really didn't bring too many people out at all - and a lot of the ones I did, couldn't make it in.

I think Vinnie should have been up there instead of hunt tho...

I'm gonna go ahead and say Cho Cha's set was a bit painful to listen to. There were a couple of funky moments but a lot of the mashups he was putting down clashed, and his quick cuts, particularly near the beginning, were a bit off-beat and intrusive to the previous song, IMO, YMMV. But he really seemed to bring a lot of shouters and screamers with him so he got a lot of crowd reaction.

Terence, you freaking rocked it. Out of the 4 sets I saw yours was on top. I missed Vinnie's set (wish I could've caught it but apparently I didn't have enough cleavage to get in in a timely manner) but Mateo actually delivered a pretty kicking set as well.
