automatic is an unknown quantity at this point
junglists: DJ EMPRESS (NYC)

Automatic and Spectrum Events are proud to bring you the return of DJ Empress (Skunkrock/Groundscore/NYC), Tuesday Oct 08 at the Lotus Sound Lounge.

The last time she came through town at automatic she turned some serious heads with wicked selection and mixing.

here's a bio for you:

DJ Empress has garnered respect from her peers and from top-notch producers in the UK for her talent. She is noted for her style and control on the turntables, and her refined selections of progressive tunes.

Rumour has it that she has been starting her sets off on this tour with one of the Nerve releases by Vancouver's own DJ Psidream!!!!!

In '96, Empress was so moved by her first experience listening to what was known as techstep at Flux in NYC she knew it was where she needed to be. The darker style lured her deep into the world of Drum & Bass and only one year and only one year later she began tearing up dance floors at raves in Connecticut, Massachusetts and upstate New York.

She continued to immerse herself in the world of drum and bass. Between working as the head drum and bass buyer for three locations (NYC, Boston, Atlanta), and spinning records all night, Empress gained insight and refined her skills on the decks. In a very short time her notoriety grew, as apparent talent rivaled DJs with many more years under them.

For Empress, "it's all about the music, ultimately. I make sure that my sets are well rounded, up to date, while representing what I feel expresses my sound, regardless of when it's released." She proves this every week at "Ignite", a drum and bass night she started in NYC's East Village in the true DYI spirit.
Ignite has featured such prestigious artists as Bad Company, Dam and Roland, Fierce, Future Cut, and Jumping Jack Frost. Her residencies also include a monthly party at "Test Press Sundays" and several others around the country.

December 17th, 1999 marked a milestone for Empress and the entire US drum and bass community as she made history by being the first American invited to play at Roni Size's V Recording weekly, "Movement" in London. The Movement crew and crowd liked her set so well they had her back in January and in April.

Empress' talent is known throughout the U.S. and on her first visit to San Francisco; the revered Phunckateck collective found her a welcome addition to the Bay Area scene. She was invited to team up with icons Sage and UFO! to form Triadd and the quickly slammed out their first single, "Hydroxy", which was signed to Skunkrock Recordings UK.

With an August 2000 release, Tiadd's first track includes a remix by the UK's highly regarded producers, Digital and Spirit. With a current intense touring schedule, is till finding time to work on her own tunes in NYC. Sought after by promoters on two continents,_ Empress continues to wreak havoc on the dance floors across the US every week.

so yeah, all that kind of speaks for itself, and apparently she's got a new CD out that's getting killer reviews. This was a great show last time she played for us, she rinsed out some seriously dark dnb with style and flair.
