Phase One

The Unconscious Bros are proud to present:

Phase One
Saturday
September.27TH.2003

The date has been set, and the word is spreading quickly. The beginning to a new era in the rave scene in Vancouver is upon us, and it will all begin with one party. Join us for a full night at Phase One as we bring the scene back to formula. There are some who may read this and know the feeling of the dark and reminisce and criticize the state of the scene today. It is true; parties are not like they used to be. Today, parties are no longer scaled in superiority by the quality of the music and vibe. The culture has not been lost, but instead, re-found. Honestly it looks like it will be a good party. You have a nice balance of DJ's that should all play some good tunes for people to dance to. But again just being honest I really don't see how throwing a party with some locals as has been done 1000's over is the start of a new era. Also you mention that Vancouver is respected world wide for our musical talents, and that's true we are. However the people that would come to mind are Jay Tripwire and the deepen boys, Psidream, Dave Armstrong and well many others actually. No offence to Azim or anyone else on that line up but they have little recognition or relevance outside of Vancouver.

Again best of luck with the party, it looks like fun and if I can I'll probably come and check it out.

I've almost given up on the scene several times. it's not the music that bothers me, infact i think it gets better. It's not the promoters because they're just trying their best to throw down a good show. i almost gave up because of the party kids and it usually takes 1 quality intimate party to revive my faith in the scene. go plur. lol.

Just to be clear small parties are my favorite, there's no reason that everyone shouldn't have a great time.

not to be labeled a 'h8r' or anything, but this write-up is just too darned funny.

this would normally be write-up fluff, but the whole party seems to be based on a 'renaissance' of sorts, so this gains a bit of weight. how exactly is this going to bring about a new era?

i see nothing special about this party that i haven't seen in dozens recently. were they the beta versions for phase 1.0?

i think nolan covered the aspect of vancouver's recognized talent, pretty well. that aside, i'm not even sure if that's what this bit was alluding to. reading it over again, it doesn't make any sense, nor is any of it really relevant. but i kind of get the feeling it was written to be obscure deliberately...

is this just irony, or are you guys admitting to throwing a cookie-cutter party?

ha. this is the best part. 'it's not us that's throwing the shitty party! the scene made us do it! THE SCENE!'

well, if this is at the korean or here on earth, i guess most kids could call it home. they've been there enough recently.

....

normally i wouldn't care about this. just another formula mcrave which happens about every weekend or so. nothing new here at all. but, according to all the fronting in the write-up, these guys are bringing in a paradigm shift of raving! whose feet may i kiss for this honour???

such bullshit. tone down the hype. anyone with a clue is going to see this for what it is, and you're just going to end up looking dumb. however, if you promote it as what it *actually* is, then you might save a bit of face in the process.

what your party actually is, would be a low-priced, small, likely vibey, possibly sketchy venued show with a reliable, but uninspired line-up of locals. on that angle, you've got something going for you. the price is especially impressive. on the 'moses coming down mt sinai with glowsticks' angle, you look stupid. nix that.

just my thoughts. call it tough love. :)

And you wonder why promoters hesitate in writing up a flyer in the first place to only have it picked apart by others.

Take the party for what it's worth... ALL the locals playing (16 total) spin quality music and in my opinion, spin some of the best of their genre in the scene. So what, they don't have Jay Tripwire or Dave Armstrong... 16 DJ's for $10 is cheaper than any club night.

I am excited for Kamal and Harp... first party and I know they are going to put their all into it.

Good luck boys, I am looking forward to playing a hell of set for you two. -- Thanks for all your support thus far, now it's time for me to return the favor.

Peace.

which is exactly what i suggested they promote their party on. it's an incredibly cheap price for a line-up of well-known locals like this. to that, i say good on them.

however, writing up a promo in which they say they're breaking new ground, and creating a revolution is pushing things. making it the theme of the party and marketing it on this angle is definitely taking things to far. either it insinuates that they've been under a rock for their time in the scene, and have never been to a non-mainstream party, or that they're fronting. either way, they look dumb.

keep in mind that if i still hadn't have 'picked apart' the promo, they'd still look dumb. anyone who has been around for the last year would be able to see that this is a pretty generic party. i don't have to be around to tell them that. i just said something so that these guys would realize how ridiculous the write-up actually was.

I wrote the write up and blew it out of proportion because, i enjoy being articulate. you would not believe how amusing it was reading inkster's response because it was like mystery science theater or whatever that show was called. I've always liked being cut apart by inkster because it's awfully humbling. but, i don't think you should press the promoters for trying to hype up the party that they're throwing. if you weren't in the rave scene, and you read that, of course you'd expect some different things. i personally think the unconscious brothers have a fighting chance to impress some 'non-jaded ravers'.

for what it's worth, i've been trying my best to help these guys in between my hella hectic schedule. They've been trying hard and SHOULD be taken for face value. The show will be amazing because yes, it will be a cookie cutter show only because we're not flying hummers from the ceiling, or having a 40 foot stage with 9 wide-screen projector screens. but i'm helping them design with a pretty tight set design that i've always wanted to see at a party. it will be fun, trust in that. inkster, you're right, tickets are really cheap. i'll buy you yours, in exchange, help us make phase 1 perfect. you down?

bwah ha ha ha, wait wait, before you go and pick my post apart, don't forget that the real thing is out there, and we're just trying to make that look bad too. help us do it.
