yeehaw booked flight to amsterdam for jan4th.

has anybody been to 'stadam? give me all the skippy on this city folks.

after just returing from SE asia, I cant get travllin off my mind....could get really used to this whole work,travel,work,travel,work,travel scenario.

my goal is to have traveled around the world by the time im 24.

i was in amsterdam a few years back :)

one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life! Asides from being able to smoke pot outside, the people and culture are spectacular.

if your travelling alone, dont venture into the darker alleys of the red light district since their are large gangs that prey on single tourists.

oh and the sex museum isn't really that interesting :P

If you can, take a trip outside the centrum. Small town Europe is the real thing. You will have much more fun being with real Dutch people than drinking in a bar with a bunch of American travellers you met in the hostel. Amsterdam is like a front, like stepping onto a postcard. It says "Pick a tulip, buy some clogs, eat a waffle and get out!"

During the day the architecture and museums are great to check out. I went to the Van Gogh but didn't have time to see the Royal Museum as it was under renovation.

If you are not into pot, porn or paying for sex then there isn't much nightlife there in Amsterdam Sunday to Thursday. If you want to party on the weekend and don't want to hear top 40/RNB then you have to leave the Centrum and head out to the other areas. Be warned that taking the metro out there is cheap but taking a cab back is mega $$$$.

Don't walk down alleys alone, don't talk to all the idiots trying to sell you E, coke or whatever on the street. Once you make contact they don't leave you alone unless you are 6'3" and 285lbs like my friend was and going to thump them unless they fuck off.

Beware of doing too many headshop products as they are a hell of a lot stronger than you think. I ended up staring at a ceiling for hours and fully enjoyed myself. If you do get too high go into a coffeeshop and drink sugary drinks and that will bring you down.

Using the toilet is $1 for a non patron and free for partons. A shot of Jaeger is $2 so you figure out what you want to do.

Don't smoke pot in public as they don't look too highly on that and everyone there eats their fries with mayo.

Buy your bus/metro tickets in bulk or get a pass as it is super easy to get around that way. Amsterdam is a city built in concentric circles so once you get your bearings it is pretty easy to get around.

The Baba coffee shop is nice and make sure you find the one where they have the inside like the underpart of a big mushroom. It's super trippy in there when you light up.

And the last thing... my friends told me it is 50 Euro for a session in the RLD. Don't pay any more and DO NOT take pictures of any of the girls there or some big monster is going to rip your camera apart.

I'd say get drunk - and high - and if it was a good time you won't remeber most of it. I'm planning on missing out at least a week of my summer next year there. ;)

I was there in August 2003 and it was just awesome !
We did like a 5 day coffee shop tour.
There was one with 40 different high quality types of weed and hash, I dont remmeber it's name, but it is close to LA CANNA ( www.lacanna.nl ), which is a 3 floor coffeeshop bar hotel.
It costs u between 15 and 50 euros to stay there, depends what kind of room u want.
Red light district is a sight to see.... There are every kinds of women there, it's just crazy....
I dont know how much it costs, but I think it's 50 euros, thats what I heard.
Be careful if u walk at nite especially in those areas, cause u'll just hear voices from everwhere saying: cocaine, heroine, ecstasy......
Dont even pay attention to them, cause they sell shit and they'd jump on u if the see u r interested in buying....
Some types of weed and hash u should try if u can find them : Skuff, Nepalese, Ice O lator, Jack Herer, Mr. Nice, White Widow, Charas, OrangeBud, just to name a few..... Definitely try Skuff if u find it, it's awesome.
You can also get shrooms in the smart shops ( everywhere ).I had an awesome trip there.
If u like trance music, go to the club xl.
