LaCie - Hard Drive, Design by F.A. Porsche - USB 2.0 and FireWire

only thing is that its firewire 400/USB 2.0 only.

Picked this up in the 160Gig

.. it's literally about the same size as my Ipod. So far.. not a complaint. =D

Hey Rob... I got a question about this as I finally have Serato on my new MacBook Pro.

If my buddy had an external drive and brought it over loaded with MP3's, plugged in to the firewire port, would all of those tracks now need to be re-indexed on MY Serato setup?

your crates can be constructed and stored on your external. The best bet is to create a new crate in your buddy's version and dump your personal crates into it as sub-crates.

However, if you're using iTunes, then the folder information will not transfer.

Don't care about the itunes bit - I just assumed that if you plugged a hard drive with a shit load of MP3's into a new laptop, that THAT specific Serato install would have to re-index each file. I'm hearing from you that once Serato indexes in initially (on his install from his system), that would store that on the hard drive itself.

We would just have to make absolutely sure that the install versions are the same.

no, you won't have to re-analyze any files as the overviews are saved directly to the mp3. Just make sure you're analyzing with the same version.

When you import your files from the HD, your playlists will save to the drive your files are saved on, so all you really have to do is plug in and all your crates will appear on the 2nd computr.

Picked up a 500GB External Lacie drive... Firewire 800...

Precise and I finally combined electronic libraries... kinda sick how much shit we now have to sort through. After that will come the fun of ripping vinyl.

g3n3ral: the nexStar enclosures aren't the best but definitely has your "blue led." but seems ur satisfied w/out it now har har.

kraig: assuming u just got a new mac, remember not to update the new mac patches until u have googled about it. hosed macs are more common than hosed pcs now!
i just did a reinstall after a major update that crashed the MBP
TOTALLY SUCKS when it happens to u for the first time a few hours before ur supposed to spin at a party!! shouldn't matter too much since u have an external hd. but should be worth looking out for if u have new tunes that haven't been transferred yet.

^^ I've had my MacBook Pro for about 4 months now.

I did install the new update that came out last week from Mac and the system (so far) is working flawlessly. (Knock on wood.) In fact, my internet browsing has gotten considerably faster.
