sound system advice needed
I'm looking at buying a system to play parties, about 200-300 people in a fairly large hall and maybe some outdoor parties as well. I've rented systems in the past and it's just too expensive here in the Kootenays. These are what I'm looking at:
Mackie SR1530Z 15" 3-Way Active Loudspeaker Pair and more Cabs at GuitarCenter.com. and QSC HPR181i 18" Powered Subwoofer and more Subwoofers at GuitarCenter.com. This combo doesn't seem as large as the systems I've rented in the past but they were passive systems with compressors and graphic eq's... My question is, will this system be enough? Will I be maxing it out playing to that many people? Any opinions on the speakers and subs themselves? Thanks for your help in advance. |

if you can find the earlier made mackies that were made in the usa you will be far better off. far too many of the newer models are overheating and not performing as expected. they are getting harder to come by - and most are a bit beat up if you are buying from the used market. I would recommend perhaps going with 1 more subwoofer- but I think you'd be hardpressed to satisfy all 300 peoples ears with that.
