lol... is mixing 2 songs together on turntables really that difficult that people need easier options?

I would never recommend Traktor as the easier alternative for wannabe dj's, because it just isn't so. There is so much depth to the program, although it might be a nice starting ground for beginners - it takes practice and experience ( as with turntables) to really flex the muscles of this amazing software.

Good point.

However, why not just put the rice in the rice cooker, instead of waiting for it to boil. Are we making our lives more difficult than they need to be by focusing our attention on matching BPMs, when a computer CPU has the potential do the same thing?

I think the article previously mentioned looks at these points and tries to make light of the fact that some nu-school Dj's are taking the EZ way out by embracing the technology and shamelessly calling the computer's work their own. Then again, why not, it's easier and cheaper.

People say cookies taste better when they're homemade, but why bother to turn on the oven, when Betty Crocker is at your doorstep. So, I can understand why people have gone this route. Much the same way that electronica musicians are going with softsynths and are shying away from analog/digital hardware synths.

Guess it's all how you look at it, or how you want people to look at you.

^^ I don't think it was about "oh well the alternatives are cheaper and easier," i think that the point was about the freeing of distribution + new dj tools has led to a 2nd coming of McDj's usurping the hard work of seasoned vets. And the next point was that if you are going to embrace the new digital realm you ought to be doing a hell of a lot more then what you're talking about and that doing your own beatmatching is more reliable. I dunno why you are all on about rice cookers and shit. I am kinda hungry though.

I don't think digital djing gets quite the respect it deserves. Good DJ's who use this equipment put just as much work into a laptop set as they would into a set on the turntables.

Ok ya bummer, theres a bunch of nerds out there crankin out crummy ableton mixes/bootlegs like no tomorow. Hacks are not exclusive to digital djing, there are just as many crappy vinyl jockeys making an embarrassment of any self respecting turntablists just the same as Dj Ableton Grain Delay Guy.

Ableton is pretty much the lazy-beatmatcher choice du jour. Still though, then you have to pre-program your set and honestly that has too much opportunity to lose your audience completely.
When you have tracks that are more complex programs incorectly set their beat markers, if you rely on your software and beatmatch visually your gonna have problems.

I just use a fullscreen playlist window in torq so it doesn`t effect me, your never going to be as accurate visually compared to using your ears.
