Cubase/Vista compatibility??
Is SX3 compatible with vista!? I have always just used my older computer with XP for all my production stuff, but I was trying to install my stuff on my laptop with shitty Vista and it doesn't seem to wanna finish installing? Is there just something buggy with my installers or does cubase not work with vista? does cubase 4 work ?

i dont know.. im sure it does, but vista kills cpu so i would think it would be best to work on xp. Actually my buddy was running Nuendo on vista, and it was working but the performance was so bad he reverted to xp. Myself I really really really want a copy of cubase 4 .. if anyone has it.. I have lots of good stuff to trade.

Cubase SX3 is the dog's balls. If Vista doesn't work, then downgrade to XP. Seems everyone's using Protools, Live, and Logic. Cubase SX3 has amazing VST plug-ins, the mixer is great, and the MIDI is tight. Right now I'm running Cubase Studio 4 out of a Q6600 quad computer with Vista Home x64 and although it was hard to make the move from XP to Vista, its not been too bad now that I'm passed the hurtle. The main issue was that a lot of the programs and drivers weren't coded properly for the x64 OS, so I had to "make it work" in many ways... and although it could be argued that XP would run faster, it still out performs my old single core DAW by about 6x faster, so I'm not overly bothered by it. And I think a lot of the issues with vista bogging down your system has to do with that it takes a lot of RAM to run, so if you have only 2 gigs of RAM, I would definitely go back to XP, but if you have 4 or more gigs (I have 6), I wouldn't be overly concerned. One thing though is your audio interface. I've been reading on forums that the 1394a firewire coding is only available in vista ultimate, which sucks balls if you have a firewire audio interface. But if you're using a USB/USB2.0, once again, should work fine.
I think if you are just starting out and have the ability to go back to XP, if you don't have more than 4 gigs of RAM (unless you want XP64, but that might have some of the same problems as vista), I'd go for it. But if you're stuck with vista and have more than 4 gigs that need the x64 OS, I'd just stick with what you have.... Last edited by (val)Liam; Sep 01, 09 at 09:00 PM. Reason: finishing thought... |
