Speaking of fruityloops...

Anyone know wtf is with the sonic coloring on pretty much any sound that goes thru its audio engine?

I've heard people say it's transparent just like cubase, but whenever I write anything, it just doesn't sound very good. Its like they attempted to write an analog emulation algorithm but failed.

Is it just my brain being biased or is there actually something up with Fruity sound?

I've always used fruity to sequence my drums. I love the drum sampler and the slicer. I don't use any of the other plugins that come with fruity. What version are you using? FLStudio 5 seems cool to me.

5 is the last version I've used.

I've found most of the samples that come with it suck... sampling off vinyl helps, but there's still that lack of tone that I can't quite put my finger on.

I was thinking exactly the same thing today. Ive been using different programs such as ableton live, reason and pro tools and find that fruity has a pretty crappy sound output...

Reason's output is most definetly colored, but they did a damn good job of it. I remember a couple parties where i had to go up to the stage to see if the fat beat I was hearing was coming off a record, only to find that it was made in Reason.

I think its time to do some mixdown tests between fruity and cubase or something.

Well I figured out what was making the sample rate quality shitty in FL. In the audio settings you can change the sample rate and more importanly the interpolation. I got the sinc depth for playback set at 128. If I turn it up to 256 the playback gets messed as it needs more cpu. I then bounce it out at 256, which is a an option when you bounce. Throw it back it into Sonar, and presto no fruity sound.
