serato scratch vs. final scratch
I know this has been posted before, but I was hoping some people may have had some more hands on experiences with both of these setups since then. Im very seriously leaning towards serato at the moment, but I wanted to see what everyone else thinks...
My impression is that serato is more stable and final scratch still seems to have its glitches. The only thing thats sweet about FS2 is the fact that you can record your sets... |

ps. when youre running the software for serato can you be running other programs in the background? I have an external soundcard that I can hook up through USB as well, and I was curious if I could use that to record the set using another program while running serato?

its like comparing a BMX to a HARLEY
i cant really comment on why its better then FS .. ive never used it . but from everyone that has switched or used both programs .. are sayin SSL is miles ahead of FS . my advice to u .. contact someone w/ it .. and try it out for an hour .. im 100% positive u will buy serato that very day. |

^ ya i know wut u mean ..
after using it a few months tho i found as long as your control vinyl is always cleaned every 30 mins or so .. its not a problem .. i also check for dust build up on my needles every 15 mins .. Although i have had a horror story of being too smashed .. then having my needle fill w/ dust and make that horrid noise --- luckily i was quick to change it to Internal mode -- saved the daY |

Alla - i know how u feel .. Im str8 wax too when it comes to certain gigs.
If i play a rave i still use Vinyl. also if im doing a small set sumwhere then Vinyl also . or any other function that i wouldnt be needed for the duration of the nite. Its easier to use Wax when your playing a genre that u only need a crate or 2 of records to last the nite. For a club nite gig w/ hip hop .. its a different story .. thats the main reason i switched. |

Yeah ive been having the dilema about whether or not to go digital and it just makes so much sense on different levels. Ill still buy records and play vinyl, but with serato I can...
1) Get fresh tracks that are released on mp3 but not vinyl yet (all of which I will pay for, which will support artists that may not be at the stage of pressing vinyl yet) 2) I can expand the genres I play a lot easier without having to spend 1000s of dollars getting up a solid base of different styles. 3) I can drop assloads of accapellas 4) I can drop shit that I produce (down the line a bit) 5) I can drop shit that my friends have been producing 6) I can bring way more tunes with me than what fits in a bag, so I can adapt more quickly to what the crowd is feeling Basically it means fresher beats and the chance to add more flava to my sets. |

dude don't even think about it.
tell me when you're free this week and i'll bring mine over. and yeah as long as you have atleast 512 ram you can record its just the program that doesnt have a record option. FS sucks. www.scratchlive.net check out the forum. ask those guys anyting and its answered within 10 minutes. |

As for FS vs SSL, I can't speak from personal experience as I'm not a dj; but any of the dj's that play for us here at the club (ie. Tanner, J-Swing and Flipout) that use this technology all use SSL. It's all a personal choice though, guys like Czech, Vinyl Ritchie and Noah will never switch away from vinyl, it's more of a security thing than anything else for them. I've seen a couple times up in the booth where a laptop has gone down and dj's have been scrambling. |

yeah theres def some insecurities when playing from computer but 99% of the time its that persons wrongdoing which created a prob with the laptop.
bad mp3s. wireless net searching. windows update. deleting files. not building overviews of your tracks. all this shit can crash your laptop in a second. The key is to buy an extra power adapter so you arent relying on the usb power to serato. that way when your laptop is turned of you can still play normal records through serato. |

serato is dedfinatly the way to go..I have played on both and I found serato to be way smoother and way less problems in the long run. as for recording while using serato my buddy does it all the time at the club with no problems..and he is running 1 gig of ram. The only thing I think final scratch has going for it is that you can see the whole track lay out and where you are on the track( much easyer if you dont know your tracks) But all in all the layout and functionality of serato is hands down the better program.

Ive never realy heard good things about FS. IMO it was a short term fad over a year ago.
As for serato... im serprised more ppl dont use it. Like many others I debate, get a second cdj OR sell my cdj and get serato? The cool thing about serato is technicly your still using vinyl. I think if you havnt gotten into the cd thing yet... then make your jump to serato. Ive seen quite a veiw local djs in the house and top 40 scene use it already. |

im a full blown serato addict.
my personal fave about the product.. Relative mode = no NEEDLE or CUE skipping Once u get started w/ it .. u start organizing crates.. renaming all your tracks... u pick up mad steam and just go hard w/ it. My shits crazy organized now .. soo much easier to work. |

I've used both and have purchased Serato because it's more my style. Serato is much better in my own opinion and with the 1.5 update it can loop and sample etc etc. And it doesn't use near as much system requirements as FS. The guys at Long and Mcquade sell 10 Seratos for every one FS, thats gotta tell you somethin.
