The M-Audio has better inputs for recording dj sets (2 x 1/4" as opposed to 1/8th " mini jack), but my guess is the Edirol probably sounds a bit better. If you are only going to use it for recording dj sets I'd probably go with the M-Audio for ease of use. The end product will probably be MP3 anyway, in which case I doubt anyone would notice any slight difference in audio quality there may be.

as you can see i have a microtrack for my feild recording project while im down here in south america. i was going to bring a PT interface and a pre0sonus pre but decided not to. after looking into many products i opted for the maudio. anyways i love the micro track. the sound quality is extremely good and i can choose anywhere from 16 44 up to 24 96 and various mp3 codecs along the way. in the feild, the start up time needs to be alot faster, but that can be fixed with firmware updates. file managing needs to be improved. no matter what you do you are locked into a automatic file numbering system that names files. so when i hit record its file 123 file 124 and theres nothing i can do about it. until another firmare update.audio scrubbing could be smoother, a better set of on board dsp or eq could be had, but again can all be solved with more firmware updates. overall build quaility is pretty light. the main button used to navigate feels kinda cheap and im always conscernd about dropping the damn thing considering im running around the amazon with it.battery life is good. but the battery is propreitary and conceald within the unit. there are some workarounds for this and some battery pack mods can be made but again, battery life can be improved with firmware updates. aside from all this the audio quality is exeptional. once again the audio quality of this product is outstanding. i could use a better pre amp to go infront of it but thats something for the next adventure. if your recording audio be sure to use a mic cable cause when the mic is plugged right into the mini jack it picks up all finger and operation noise when handleing the product.abslutly no system noise cause it records straight to memory cards. no moving parts is a big big plus. straight line ins are solid and clean sounding. now, one thing that most definatly needs to be adreesed is the phantom power. it only puts out 38 v instead of 48. alot of mics can take it but some of the more sensitive and pricer mics cant. so make sure that your mic is suited to 38 v of phantom power. i have been using this bit of kit to record animals in the amazon, interviews with scientisits and other adventure travelers, recording indigenious amazonian shaman ceremonies, shamanic chants and icaros, tribal songs, enviromental soundscapes, and anything thats odd and sonically maleable for me to edit when i get home. i would most definatly recomend the micro track. easy to use excelent audio quality infinate capacity system tweeks and fixes through firmware updates. |
