Also, finding something that seems to make all your pain and unhappiness go away even if only temporary, can lead to addiction. Winston described it perfectly, if you get ahold of something so powerful and comforting when you are having a hard time otherwise, then you might never know when to stop.
very true, and im sure that most people would agree with that second part. And the person using may even know what they are getting into and see it gripping them, but the quick fix it provides you emotionally makes it all seem worthwhile.

I dont believe there is one main cause for depression, there are many reasons that people may become depressed.

I agree. It's just that doctors don't seem to treat the illness that way. Every doctor me and my friends have seen always wanted to pump them/us full of pills; which is even more ridiculous considering they only "think" that it is caused by chemical imballances. Almost everyone I know that has suffered with depression has tried an "alternative" treatment and it worked. I admit that when I first became depressed I briefly tried antidepressants, and yes I wasn't as sad as before but that's because I was numb. I wasn't anything... sad, happy MYSELF. No one even seemed to consider the fact that I might be causing all my problems by the way I think about and deal with the world and people around me. I've changed the way I think and eat and I haven't suffered from depression for over a year. Fuck, at one point they were drugging me awake (ritalyn), drugging me happy (a ntidepressants) and drugging me asleep with tryptophyn. Well at least they tried, I sure as hell didn't put up with that.

its easier to give you a pill then to re-adjust the way you think.

^ OBVIOUSLY. That's something you have to do on your own with a little guidance. It would be nice to know that you actually have that option and not just have pills shoved down your throat.

It would be nice if doctors were honest and a little less "lazy" in trying to help people get better. Because that's what they are supposed to do, isn't it?

I don't think it's so much about them being lazy as perhaps because they've been kinda conditioned to treat certain illnesses using the biomedicine model instead of looking into other holistic methods.
