There is NO excuse.
I'm not without fault, for I have done both. But I was a lot younger and I realize now how stupid it was, and how lucky I am that I didn't hurt someone else or myself. I didn't do it more than a few occasions, but I was still very much in the wrong.
I think that driving under any influence, or even being too fatigued at the wheel is unnecessarily endangering youself and others. You are an irresponsible moron with no consideration for others and no appreciation for life if you drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The sad part is, that you will probably end up injuring or killing someone other than yourself. And I realize that there are studies that have been conducted that come to the conclusion that driving while stoned is "safer" than driving drunk, and I also realize that many people on this board and people I know have driven under the influence without incident. But the thing that I don't understand is why do you take the risk? What makes you think that you are invincible? And what makes you think that you can play god and take the lives of others into your own hands? I have NO respect for people who drive under the influence. I think that penalties should be harsher than what they are for offenders that are caught. In my 6+ years of driving, I have been able to take the time to make other arrangements to get around or for places to stay if I am going to drink. It's the responsible thing to do. I don't let my friends drive drunk, and I am often the designated driver. There are so many other options like cabs, the Driving Alternative, bus/skytrain or staying at a friend's house. Or if none of those are going to work for you, maybe you just shouldn't drink or blaze that evening. You stoners and drinkers can go on believing what you want, but I just wish it wouldn't take getting caught, or even worse, a fatality to change your mind. Like I said before, unfortunately you will probably end up injuring or killing an innocent person instead of yourself. Oh, and happy 1000 posts to me! Last edited by veN; Jan 24, 05 at 04:26 PM. i've been guilty of doing both once, and trying to explain how it all went down would just be making excuses. i don't think either is okay, and i will try not to put myself into situations where i end up resorting to that again. |

For all you drunk drivers, I would like to direct your attention to Kraig's post in The Lounge about a (suspected) drunk driving incident. It can't happen to me, right? Heh. Think again:

^Or this link. The statement is written by my aunt in reaction to losing her son, my cousin, Dayton Unger, to a driver who was under the influence of marijuana. All you people who think it's ok to drive stoned.... it's people like you who take lives away from people like my cousin. A damn shame..... |

Driving drunk is the dumbest thing you can possibly do. Something bad WILL happen one time when you drink and drive, it always works like that.
When I first started smoking weed there was no way I would drive... but after years of smoking, it doesnt affect me like it used to. I have NEVER been pulled over in all my years of driving. When Im baked, I concentrate...simple as that. I drive the speed limit, and take it easy. Ive gone through roadblocks after smoking doobs and had no problems. Weather your sober, or baked... dumb driving is dumb driving. Either way you slice it, a car can be a deadly weapon and it has to be respected. I do it for a living, and would never take any risk that would endanger myself, or anyone with me. The problem is, people react differently. Unfortunately, weed makes some people do stupid things like drive like assholes and put themselves and others in danger. If you drink and drive, youre a fucking idiot! |
