Who knows how to spin top40?
I need someone to teach me how to properly mix rap, hip-hop, rnb, reggae, pop, dance, etc.
I'm will come to your place and will pay you. If there's someone out there who wouldn't mind helping me, then PM me ASAP and we'll go from there. Thanks in advance. |

cue up second deck on a beat
fuck mixing stop first deck on a beat where the song starts sucking. start second deck on same beat the beat pattern changed, who cares...little sluts have their hips off to one side and can shake it back to a slower/faster beat. |

contrary to popular belief, you *can* actually mix top40 and it's actually pretty hard to do well.
Unlike basically all elecotronic music out there, a lot of it is not tailor made to mix and you're going to be dealing with bpms ranging from 50 bpm to 180 and some of the tracks will be unquantized live tracks and a lot of the tracks will have extra bars and unorthodox structures that your average 4/4 8-bar pattern house/dnb/breaks/trance will not have. However, in line with popular belief, you don't really *need* to mix it to make people happy although mixing it will at least give you - the dj - something to do for 3 hours in between drunken club sluts demanding that you play Justin Timberlake for the 5th time that night. |

^ of course there are ways to mix it. There are a ton more techniques you can use mixing hiphop, top40, whatever than your standard blending/layering of any electronic genre.
it jsut that, like you said, the people that like that shit get all confused when there are 2 songs playing at once. |

what I do with top40/hiphop on my CDJs is loop like the first bar or two of Song2 (the song i'm cueing up).....and mix it in near the end of Song1 and then just exit the loop when i cut Song1......sounds pretty good usually
there's lot of shit you can do........even simply switching songs works......just wait till the end of a bar, and drop the new song on the first beat of the next bar......it's actually more stimulating to most top40 audiences when they hear their favorite songs drop in suddenly or press 'stop' on the live track.....and once it finishes slowing down extra slow (either a record, or CDJ set on vinyl mode works) drop the new track......kind of a cool effect to do once in a while or scratch-in .... that's pretty much all i got for top40 type ish |

OK cool. Technix - it's true that anyone can spin top40, however, I wanted to know if someone could show me some cool tricks and what not. I've never really paid much attention as to how club DJs do it, so I started wondering if they did anything special... I just couldn't remember. I have to spin top40 in two weeks and I've never spun it in my life before... so it's gonna be interesting. :p
Soo - I might take up on your offer. |
