The Saturn Ion is the worst vehicle GM has made recently. The Ion is based on the same platform as a Saab 9-3, a few Opels and the new Chev Cobalt. Out of all those vehicles the ion is by far inferior to all, the interior is from rubbermaid, the exterior will be the last one made with composite body panels. Also the speedo, tach are in the center of the dash and a quite difficult to read while driving. For the same money the new Cobalt is not that bad of a car, it replaces the Cavilier and it is by far supirior to the Ion.

Kirsta nooooo....
They'll make you join the "Saturn Family" and you'll have to go to Saturn owner Picnics and share all of your stories and adventures you've had with your Saturn car with other people who have the same Saturn cars. And all of this will encourage them to put out even more of the lamest car commercials ever. I just had to warn you. What will you name your new car? ...did Gretta finally make it to the big junk yard in the sky? |

my advice: don't go with a Saturn. for fixing those things are a serious pain, tho not as bad as most Fords but very close none the less. go with a reliable name, Hondas, Nissans, Chevy, GMC. those are pretty good names. i do agree the new Cobalt has a good known-to-work engine and drivetrain, and also the looks are nice. review and consumer reports are the best judgments, rarely are they biased and they are given from an honest and first hand experience, quite trusting. there is also a very handy book called "Lemonade". it's compares all the cars in the same class and years to each other and gives the pros and cons of each car, parents got that book and it pretty much bang on. do go with a car that you like and know you will keep liking because one of the worst feelings is regretting your purchase (damn broken Oh Henry!).

Talk to people you know Krista...Seriously, most people will SWEAR by "Japanese" cars like Honda, Mazda, and Toyota, but most of their cars are made in North America now using POSSIBLY Japanese parts (my Mom's 97 Mercury Mystique is made up of a hodge podge of both Ford and Mazda parts making it unusually expensive to fix for a domestic). One thing you should definately figure out is if any of the cars you're looking at are made up like that, because having "Japanese" parts in your car might make it more expensive to fix (expecially if they are Mazda parts which Ford uses). Oh, and if you don't like the quote you got for Gretta, I know of a FANTASTICLY honest mechanic...He specializes in Japanese cars but he works on domestics too...My parents have been going to him for like, 10 years. He's not far from 128th and 84th. Lemme know if you want the info. :) |

i always make fun of my moms windup toy saturn.
yes i did drive it in high school but when I was 17.... I knew nothing. now i can poke fun. the bloody salesman took his knee to the side of the door when they bought it. tada! plastic. p.s. Nelia has had nothing but problems with hers. The whole thing vibrates and feels like its going to blow up. And it's not that old. |

for the record:
saturn, buick, gmc, chev, oldsmobile, and cadillac are pretty much all the same company. Almost all 2000's and up are a pain in the ass to fix. Manufacturers are trying to reduce the do-it-yourself market by making basic maintenance a pain in the ass, getting extremely stingy on warranty requirements, and making general parts more vehicle specific. It sucks. The ion and cavelier are pieces of shit. enjoy. Ford and Mazda use a lot of similar parts partly because there's little difference in general engine design. A car with a two litre engine made by ford will have a bunch of parts that can be used by a 2L Mazda. Last edited by Goat; Feb 09, 05 at 10:13 PM. |

think of ur hard earn money 4 to 5 years down the road.
the resale value of a saturn is dismal. the sensible choice is a honda civic. base for base it's practically the same price as an ion. honda civic sedan or coupe, $16300. saturn ion - sedan, $15000 - coupe, 16400. i think most will agree the honda is the better product. also, if it means any, keep jobs at home. the honda civic sedan is assembled in alliston, ontario. i say "assembled" because some of the parts are from ohio usa. our canadian quality control is very good. back that with methotical japanese engineering makes a sensible and reliable car. check out the mazda 3 as well, it's also rated very well. |
