I've been using Traktor + Final Scratch 2 for a while, and it does have its share of bugs. Audio pops and drop-outs, etc.

I'm only reluctant to try Serato because of the USB 1.1 interface instead of Firewire (better sound quality/bandwidth with Firewire, they say), but if Serato upgrades theirs to USB 2.0 soon, I'll probably jump right on it.

Generally, Serato's got a reputation as a much more stable product that doesn't hog up your processor and RAM.

But then Traktor/Finalscratch is about to release a new version, so we'll see how that goes.

"drop outs" is that when it sort of like freezes for half a second and there is no sound?? cause thatz the major problem i usually have with my fs 2.0
what r the audio popps all bout? don;t think i have encountered those yet or maybe i have not sure...

and ya i love the pitch lock i think its hella dope haven't really fooled around with the loopin at all yet

the other thin gi hate about the software is when ever u have to re-install it its a big fukkin deal with gettin a new key from NI....fuckin bullshit!! grrrr

NI and Stanton both seem to pass the hot potato back and forth when it comes to support. They kind of point the finger at each other, but at least Stanton replies quickly, and they at least express some concern. NI's responses usually consist of, "Bugs? What bugs?", even though their forums are filled with reports. NI also doesn't update their software often enough.

ALTHOUGH, I love the pitch lock, looping and filter functions in Traktor/FS2. Loops especially - they change everything, and make transitions very flexible. Sorting through music is very quick too.

I also use a MIDI controller with it (for filters and controls like Pitch Lock mostly, so I don't need to dork around with a mouse), so once in a while, extra input seems to confuse the program for just a fraction of a second. Sounds like someone's screwing with the wires on the mixer.

If it happened just once or twice, it's no big deal, but I do see a pattern when it happens, and I'd rather focus on spinning, not damage control.

i've had problems with serato too

I have used serato and traktor based platforms...

they both have their unique problems inherent to the technology they're based on.

USB vs Firewire? not a big deal

Latency? this is a small issue... we're talking a few milliseconds to maximum 50 ms if you have a shitty computer

Serato i've found doesn't work well in very loud vibrating environments...so increase the weight on your needles or be prepared for SZSHRWEHEWQHREWHSGDYFDQYAFDY !!!@#$!!!!! sound like you wouldn't believe

I've had to move the calibration all the way negative when I spun at Plush... and it doesn't get NEARLY as loud in there as at the PNE

And it still fucked up on me...

There is no replacement for real vinyl... but for the convenience and portability trade off, I'd recommend this over carrying around crates and crates...
But keep a set of vinyl handy JUST IN CASE

MP3's are compressed... there's some musical information missing..and they'll never sound as full as real vinyl, even at high bitrates...
Wave files come closest to the real thing, but there's always some signal loss...
You have the s/n ratio of the needles & pickup to worry about usually, but you add another element of the s/n ratio of the audio interface, and your cables, etc.

Good to see you got it goin' on J.

I think i'm sticking with my USB turntables again for Doomsnight
