where to stay
I am thinking of heading to Miami this year...any recommendation for accommodations?
Or any other advise you can give to a newby... Do any of you that have been before go to the workshops or just the parties? Thanks, myshell |

There actualy a small chance i may not go this year... flights are rediculouse and im thinking of saving for some bigger things coming up in the summer. Give me a week to think about it. Otherwise... make sure its on COLLINS... collins as in south beach... NOT civic centre thanks ;) Myshell: Deffinently team up and cram in a hotel. As for the work shops... they were cool and neat. Not amazing, but fun. You get a fair amount of free stuff including g-list to a lot of places including ULTRA with the WMC one. I deffinently got my moneies worth. However it becomes very tiring going to the confrence during the day and then partying late at night... we barly got a day or two to just chill on the beach. Looks like it would be a promising trip, but the real fun is at the clubs... with 21 being their legal age, looks like im gonna have to sit this one out for another two years. Being in London for the Dj Mag Top 100 awards was enough of an experience...and money spendage.

Maggie, we need to talk about the WMC. Call me or msg me on MSN.
I and the Play It Tonight team will be hitting the confrence pretty hard this year. I've already got some meetings booked (even though I haven't booked my hotel/flight)! Everything in town is already booked up this year. Very few spots are left. Last year we booked around this time and we had our pick of the best resorts on the strip. Not this year! Advice: Stay on Colins in South Beach. Somewhere between 9th and 18th. This is where all of the clubs and events are and its a nice part of the beach as well. Washington would be okay as well. Don't stay in Miami or up the coast in Miami Beach. Be prepared to spend a lot on food/drinks. Kyle had a girl buy him a gin and tonic and it was $33 american or something stupid. Be prepared to wait in lines. Down there clubs work differently. The door-men run the clubs so if they decide the line is going to wait even though the club is empty, you'll wait. Rodger Sanchez got stuck outside one night @ Club Space even though he was playing lol! Be prepared to pay $50 US for a decent club night. Guest list are really really hard to get on unless you are industry... (I'm a nobody so I still have to pay for most parties hahah). Do ULTRA if its your first time. It was fun but it was just a typical rave but 100 times the size. I guess get the WMC pass as well if it is your first time and check out the confrence. For me it wasn't worth it. Get the M3 pass instead. It gets you into way more free pool, hotel and club parties and also has a number of confrences and isn't way the fuck out of town up the coast in Miami Beach like the WMC is. The M3 is on Colins & 14th (roughly). Go to the world famous Gerry's deli (diner?) on Collins. It has amazing food and one of the few decently priced resteraunts in South Beach. Industry people are always there. Last time I was there I met one of the guys from Infusion, had lunch with Stonebridge, bumped into Gavin Froome and Luke McKeehan and got a pic with Tiesto and he had just come from Gerrys. You are allowed to drink on the street there. Just like vegas. Its fucking amazing. We were walking around with bottles of jagermeister on the street past cops, and into stores and all over the place. Be prepared to wind up naked on the beach in the water at 5 am with the sun coming up, with a 3/4 empty bottle of Jagermeister in your hand with 20 people - some from italy, some from New York and some from who knows where. Also be prepared to wake up in a hammoc at 10 AM to house music and people already partying and not in your hotel room which you paid a rediculous amount to stay in. You won't remember anything from the beach night mentioned above. Be prepared to be overwhelmed. You can look out your hotel window and see multiple raging parties (if you are staying on colins). One day we were on the top of our hotel and two hotels over, Paul Oakenfold was playing by a packed pool deck for a few thousand people. To the hotel to the right of us, Mark Farina was playing for the M3 and the hotel over, an un-named download store that starts with B and ends with PORT was holding an outdoor event. You look around at the parties, at the beach, at the aqua blue water, at the people smiling and it hits you; you're in heaven! Be prepared to hear house (also trance) music everywhere. Stores, cars, resteraunts, hotels, distant parties, boats...everywhere. This also adds to the heaven like expearience. Be prepared to see the most georgious women (and the most fake boobs) you've ever seen and also the most amazing cars you have ever seen. Every second car is some exotic sports car or masisve escelade/truck. Be prepared for constant traffic. Even at 4am cars are constantly driving and honking. I swear they didn't move for the two weeks that I was down there. Don't ever rely on getting places in a cab or by a bus. Walk. Be prepared to see gangs of 20, big tough, black guys constantly ripping around town on these tiny little mopeds that can be rented on the strip. Generally, you see them the first day and you think 'wow, that would be fun' and then as every day goes on, you begin to hate the scooters more and more. Be prepared to meet awesome people in the elevator, in the bathroom (okay...maybe not the bathroom), at the pool, when walking home at 6am and anywhere else you can think. There are so many cool people from all places of the world flocking to Miami for the confrence. The best part is that parties will break out anywhere at any time. Some people have different expeariences at the WMC and say that it is not what it used to be (and it isn't for the business side of things) but I made the most of it and it was a life changing trip. I'm curious to see how this year shapes up with Spring Break being at the same time this year... Clubs to hit: -Shine (world famous) -Suite (amazing) -Club Space [ugh...] (you have to see the sun rise on the Terrace over Miami just once) -Crobar -Niki Beach Hotels to hit (great hotel lobby bars with cool people): -Surfcomber -The Clevelender -The National - Some hotel with a penthouse patio that gets rockin at night. I forget what its called... SICK though. - This little hotel on Colins and 7th or 8th where there is a jungle between two hotels fenced off. There is always rocking parties there. (so vauge I know...but if you see it you'll see what I mean). See you there! Last edited by Seany G; Nov 25, 06 at 02:12 AM. |

Has anyone booked flights? Flights have gone down since early fall and are almost what they were last year ($400 from seattle/$775 from Vancouver) However from Vancouver you pay over $150 in taxes compared to $40 from the US :( Anyone find anything cheeper? |
