**tonight** Ufc 65 -- Bad Intentions
this is gonna be a good one:y:
2 TITLES UP FOR GRABS. http://65.ufc.com/ SACRAMENTO, November 17 – UFC welterweight title challenger Georges St. Pierre was almost giddy at the Arco Arena as he squared off with champion Matt Hughes the day before the biggest fight of his young career, a chance at redemption against the only man to beat him. Shaking his fist and smiling, St. Pierre – who weighed in at 169 pounds - had no hint of nerves before the UFC 65 headliner, which also features the UFC heavyweight title bout between champion Tim Sylvia and challenger Jeff Monson. For Hughes, it seemed to be just another day at the office, and the longtime titleholder was also noticeably loose backstage before and after weighing in at the welterweight limit of 170 pounds. All fighters for the card, which airs live on pay-per-view beginning at 10pm ET / 7pm PT, made weight before an enthusiastic crowd there to support the UFC’s first ever card in Sacramento. UFC Welterweight Championship Matt Hughes (170) vs Georges St. Pierre (169) UFC Heavyweight Championship Tim Sylvia (262.5) vs Jeff Monson (237.5) Frank Mir (254) vs Brandon Vera (230.5) Alessio Sakara (204) vs Drew McFedries (202) Joe Stevenson (155) vs Dokonjonosuke Mishima (154.5) Nick Diaz (171) vs Gleison Tibau (171) Antoni Hardonk (242.5) vs Sherman Pendergarst (247.5) Hector Ramirez (203) vs James Irvin (205.5) Josh Schockman (235) vs Jake O’Brien (232.5) Last edited by Pennywise; Nov 18, 06 at 01:06 PM. |

the simple fact that Jeff Monson is the #1 contendor speaks volumes of how shallow the heavyweight division is.
Tim is overrated enough as is (most have him ranked around #5 if not lower - 5 sounds right to me) but when the best challenge you can find is a guy who's basically a large light-heavyweight... Other than Arlovski (has potential but aweak chin) and Vera (unproven) there's no one in the UFC heavyweight division who could even approach being an a-level fighter... That and Sylvia, althogh he's good at what he does (uses his size/reach advantage) he just looks fucking terrible when he fights. |

actually, other than the welterweights (totally stacked) and the lightweights (too new to really tell), it's pretty much the same in every division in the UFC (Pride too is some actually)
You have the top one or two guys that would be real contenders wherever they go and a bunch of scrubs who would have slim to none chance of beating the champ... I still can't believe the UFC didn't try to sign Rampage or even Heath Herring. Cheapasses. |

oh yea, i forgot about Frank Mir - if he would actually get his lazy ass in shape for a fight, he could be a contendor too, although I still consider him more of a "high-b" fighter than an "a-fighter"
Odds for tonight: UFC 65 Bad Intentions Brandon Vera -311 Frank Mir +281 Antoni Hardonk -266 Sherman Pendergarst +246 Alessio Sakara -501 Drew McFedries +451 Hector Ramirez -164 James Irvin +154 Joe Stevenson -246 Dokonjonosuke Mishima +226 Tim Sylvia -251 Jeff Monson +231 Matt Hughes -115 Georges St. Pierre +105 Nick Diaz -501 Gleison Tibau +451 For those that don't understand how these work, the - sign is the favorite and it's basically don't by a "per $100" bet. for instance, Nick Diaz is -501 meaning that in order to win $100 from the fight, you have to bet $501 for + guys it means you win that amount for every $100 you bet (+ your hundred back). |

The GSP vs. Hughes fight was awesome!! So exciting to watch Hughes get beat down like that. I didnt expect that much of a one sided fight at all...
The Silvia vs. Monson fight though... jebus. Someone feed those guys some fun pills or something. That was boring as hell. You gotta love it when they lift the hand of the UFC champ and he gets a resounding 'BOOOOOOOO' from the audience. |
