tv question: would you?

would you spend an extra grand on a tv just to get 1080p?


my dillemma is two almost identical tvs.. one 1080i/720p and one 1080p


the 1080p is a grand more.



i mean the whole reason i wanted a tv so big and nice is so that i dont have to upgrade later.. so is it worth the grand to get the big dog?

will i honestly notice a thousand dollars worth of difference between 1080i and 1080p?

well, i mean, a thousand bucks is a lot of money. how big is your place, how far away are you going to be sitting? is it reeeeally worth 1000 bucks for something like that?

personally i would just use that money for something else. you can do a lot with a grand.

Seeing as how i have no idea what this 1080 shit is all about, i say save the $ for you solo cruise. All of it.

Do you really watch enough television to justify spending so much? If so, then go for it. if not, spend it on something to better yourself.

^that's the real question. if you're going to spending 6 hours a day in front of this thing, then maybe it is worth it for you...but even still, actually, that's SO much extra money.

not so much watching tv.. but im a huge movie buff and solid gamer..


it will definately get its use.. but if its a subjective thing over whether 1080p is that extra WOW.. ill just get the 1080i/720p


if its just splitting hairs at that level im ok with not getting the top dog tv.

i think that's a good choice, now you can use that money to by a PS3 or a Wii or 12 games or something.

Personally no, but that's just because I don't have a grand here and there to throw around. If you can afford it and it's not going to dent your finances... go for it

the difference between interlaced and progressive is minor... what tv's are you looking at?

i'd personally go with the 1080i if that's the only difference, but i doubt that it is. There's refresh rates to look at as well as resolution. The new TV i just setup for work is PIIIMPIN.... 1920x1080 resolution with 3 hdmi inputs and a 8ms refresh rate

let me know what tv's you are considering and i can tell you what i think. I spent a lot of time researching pros and cosn of what's available so i know a lil bit about a lil bit. :P

i'd definitely go for the toshiba..... the 1080p on the samsung apparently is faulty so you'd end up watcihn in 1080i anyways.

Also, with a DLP, the difference between interlaced and progressive would be even less noticeable. The only reason I would get the samsung is if you were to use it as a computer monitor because of it's 1920x1080 resolution

Save the money, get a 360 with the extra cash. haha

i'd say between those two stick to the 1080i, the only 1080p actually worth it right now is the pioneer (elite) but its pretty rediculous on price.

if you have patience, you might want to wait until SED tv's come out in march (scheduled) for prices to drop and see what's available right now. also its a horrible time to buy tvs, wait till at least feb before making your purchase, you'll save some decent coin and probably be more content with your purchase (also if you wait, you can save more and may be able to purchase something extra)

Depends on what cable you have as well. Everyone buys these huge as tv's that support stuff that most providers won't even give you. If you have a sat dish, it's totally worth it because than you might actually get the true high def channels, no sat dish...spend the money on something else.

and the few tv shows i really like, come out on dvd anyhow.. and i like to watch them like that.
