All cell phone carriers can fuck you over in the exact same ways, remember that.
I work for Bell Mobility and I would say go with Bell for sure if you qualify for a corporate rate plan because you save decent money that way. As Rawb said, you really need to figure out first if you want CDMA or GSM technology. Both have their pros and cons, and you should look up on the web the differences. CDMA is super great because you experience less in the way of dropped calls and you get amazing coverage throughout north america. In addition, both CDMA carriers in BC (telus/bell) have the benefit of the EVDO network, which is basically a data centric network where ideally you can get speeds comparable to DSL/CABLE internet, it's lovely if you have a data device (I've got a RIM7250 and i love being able to find stuff quickly on the web) it's also beneficial to phones that aren't data devices because you can do a lot of stuff 'multimedia' wise - download mp3s fast, view tv/video, etc. GSM has its benefits too, and I really can't say I'm too qualified to speak about the benefits because I don't know that much..I know that Roger's gets the coolest phones out of any provider (downside, their cool phones do not last a long time). GSM coverage is excellent in a lot of urban areas but does not respond well to landscape (ie living on a mountain, big hill, etc.). Although GSM coverage is not as wide across n. America (you'd only have to be concerned about that if you went way the fuck out there). A big bonus of GSM is that the rest of the world (europe, asia, south america) all use GSM technology (although some countries may be in the process of converting to CDMA due to total network overload). bottom line, you can get a cool phone that you can take places if you ever decide to travel. As for good phones out there? For Bell I'm partial to just about anything Samsung puts out, their phones take a beating and last a really long time. |

Don't use any providers. quit while you're ahead.
I suggest calling various ones and asking for some sort of signing package IE: free for the first year or free incoming for a year or whatever. The free fones they give you are crap. You gotta be careful, ive had a cell fone for the last 7 years and they'll burn you for as long as you let them. |

the phone service provider i use in the US is Cricket when i'm in phoenix and Cingular in Seattle.
they don't have cricket in canada yet, but watch for it. probably the best thing to happen to cell phones. $45/mo unlimited NATION WIDE calling and text plus call ID and voicemail. i pay $10/mo for 500 international minutes for calling canada. full digital network in phoenix, no roaming because when you leave the service area the phone quits. no overages because it's prepaid each month. i can put money into what's called a flexbucket. it's for extra things like roaming and mms messages. the one down side is that i can't text canada, yet. but i can text mexico..... ^ The American market is really different from the Canadian market- their phones are cheap, their policies are almost always very customer friendly and their rate plans are amazing because there's a lot more competition in the USA, Canada only has three providers really, all the other ones are just submarkets of the big three here.
