it really all depends on your needs, and the phone you want.
i was with telus up until now (rogers back in the day, then to bell, then to telus, and now back to rogers.). and honestly, they weren't bad. sure, they screwed up here and there, but give me one company who hasn't? and even when they did screw up, i had no problems whatsoever getting it fixed. the only reason i switched was that when i moved, i had no reception in my new place. and seeing as how this is my only phone, it's pretty important to be able to use it in my own house. i went with rogers because not only did they offer me a good plan, but my roommate has a rogers phone with no reception problems in our house, so i knew i'd be good to go. find one that has the best plan for you, and a phone you want.. and go from there. |

and besides, it's not their fault you have no credit, or bad credit. |

But...."SCREW YOU OVER"?! You've got to be kidding me. The deposit requirement is based on YOUR credit history, bucko. If you're financially irresponsible or if you've had some problems in the past or whatever, how is that Telus trying to fuck with you? |

it's started already. |

Just whatever you do, get a phone with a sim card (fido/rogers) you'll thank yourself later when your phone has to go in for service and you can pop ur card in another phone and use it right away.. or when you need to sell your phone or buy a new one. waaaaay easier/better.

i use a pay as you go phone from telus because i barely use my cell for anything except text messaging. i pay $10 a month for unlimited texts, $30 a month for unlimited evenings & weekends and i'm working during the day at a job where i don't use my phone. works perfectly for me.

My dad and bro are with Telus and due to this weather they've been having several problems with reception, whereas me and my mom are with Rogers and have had no problems at all. I'd say check out the websites and see which ones offer the best reception/coverage and check out some of the packages (and find which provider has a good plan/package that will suit your needs). :) Extra costs can kill ya come bill time so the right plan is def crucial. |

im with Fido.... 3 months unlimited local calling, text, picture/video text + $0 phone w/ a 3 year contract.
My first month was free cause I fucking rule. im on a $40 plan= 200 day time mins, unltd in-coming calls (anytime) + unltd evenings + weekends after 5pm. after all the fees + other corporate hoo-haa my bill will not be more than $56/mo. |

When I first moved to Van, I used Fido, because they had a plan that worked well for me (unlimited incoming calls), and I got a camera phone for only $125 with no contract. I didn't mind Fido, but the reception was sketchy in some of the most random places, and was almost non-existant at UBC. All of this was before they were bought by Rogers, so I don't know how they are now.
I'm with Telus right now, and couldn't be happier. They had a promotion for a while where you could trade in you Fido phone, get a really good camera phone and you plan fee ($25/month for unlimited incoming and 100 daytime) free for a year on a three-year contract. That contract is up in a year, and I'm sure I'll review my options then, but I have no complaints at all about Telus. I think what is generally a major consideration for most people with whether they travel overseas a lot or not. If you do, go with Rogers or Fido, as they use a GSM network, which is used pretty well worldwide. Telus and Bell use CDMA, which works great within Canada and the US, but is pretty limited everywhere else. |

Bell, but only because I somehow have a sweet plan for cheap, really it depends on what the best promotion is at the time. To be honest though, Bell has much better customer service then Rogers from my experience, and I cant comment on Telus since ive never had a phone with them. This is how Ive also been told the system works
Telus and Bell > Rogers and Fido in terms of reception and overall quality of service while.. Rogers and Fido > Telus and Bell in terms of price and flexibility of plans/contracts |

im liking fido. you're billed by the second, i've never had any problems with them. but im not liking the system access fee too much. i think on telus you don't pay it monthly, or maybe dont pay it at all, cant remember.
my dad used telus and rogers before, lots and lots of errors on his bills in the past. last time he was with telus, he had a bunch of 1 minute incoming calls every month that weren't even made to him, so he was charged for all that, just lots of crap like that with by the minute billing. rogers has finiky roaming calculations. keep in mind also, that reception depends on the phone too. you could have the best provider but a crappy phone and not have good receptioin. if you're going with gsm but travel a lot and plan on switching sim cards, make sure your phone is unlocked, it can be done for about $20-$30 but voids your warranty. |
