yep considering he had at least 5 doubles that he had to disguise him. And the video tape of the execution doesn't actually show the hanging.... only the the rope being tied around his neck and then video footage of what is "supposed to be his body" after the execution....

Saddam is no more deserving as any other leader. Iraq-Iran war and his actions against kurds are just used to cover that he was a pan-arabist attempting to gain political clout and hegemony in the region.
It's not really about what he did but about US manipulation of regional politics for national interest. The rhetoric about how bad he was and the championing call of international justice is just PR. |

At what point does murder become justified? This whole thing got me thinking. It is easy to say he got what he deserved but what are the processes that allow someone like this to come into power in the first place and allow them to commit the crimes they do. Shouldn't we be attacking those things instead of killing one person and saying that the world is now a better place? It isn't. Saddam was in prison. He had no power left. He was impotent and they go and kill someone for what? Revenge? Some sort of validation? The things that put him into that situation still exist. As for the death penalty, unless you are ready to look into someone's eyes, take out a gun and kill a person who you think "deserves it" then seriously shut up. I know I couldn't kill someone in cold blood. When you react with violence you create more violence. How about getting mad at how this person was given the power to kill so many. Everyone, including myself, is guilty of letting situations like this occur. It is funny how easy it is to throw blame on an individual and use them as a scapegoat when it is people like you and I who allow them into a position where they are able to kill thousands of people. By killing Hussein, it has helped to give some people the illusion of security when in fact there will be more like him to come.

hmmm, they may have created a martyr here.
Definitely seems like a US run Kangaroo court anyway. If the US didn't demand him dead the Shi'ites would have done it anyway. There seemed to be an unnatural quickness to his execution. As far as deserving it or not I can't really say. Looking at the state of the country now and the kind of people he was ruling I can't really fault him for using an iron fist. Seriously, by the standards of "crimes against humanity" we could hang every ruler of every country in the world. |
